Anything is quick with a good driver.

I've seen cars on all seasons and 4,000 lb behemoths put up competitive times.

Not a knock against the Civic, but rather some perspective. Did you catch how wide the tires could go? That seems to be a big killer for recent FWD economy cars, hot-hatch or not, almost none can get more than 8" wheels & 225's under the stock fenders.

No, didn't catch the size. I just looked around the paddock to realize I was the only one in STX not running 200 treadwear tires. XD

Actually, that's a good point. The Tesla's engine bay looks better.

Completely disagree here. On the old car all you see is plastic covers and the intake manifold.
On the new car you can actually see the engine.
It's one of the things I love about the twins. You can see the engine!

where? I suspect there is one. I need to enlarge the picture.

Edit: OK I see some clues. There are four what may be plug caps/coils.

The Honda is a great daily driver car. I am sure the SI had nice power and is funish to drive. Honda has always made a decent car. My one complaint is FWD. I don't mind driving a front wheel drive car but railing one is just not as fun in my opinion as a RWD car. Our cars may not have that throw you in the back seat kind of power. Not even close but in the corners they are nice. If you want stop light to stop light power get a big V8 or some other boosted variant RWD car. Modern FWD cars are pretty damn good but they are still FWD. I will always prefer a FWD car.

Well apparently the Si is decently fast. Did pretty well in the Perelli world challenge in TCA class (10th gen si, 9th gen si, kia forte, miata NC, ND, mini cooper, FRS/BRZ/86).

http://tsl-timing.com/file/?f=PWC/2017/172006rc2pwt.pdf

10 seconds faster than the lone frs.

I'll take a well setup FWD over a poorly setup RWD any day of the week and twice on Sunday to go hammer some corners. RWD is more rewarding most of the time sure, (and an excellent one is just bliss), but a well setup FWD won't have any problems dancing with you.

First, Tom is my best friend and I crewed for him last year in B-Spec. The kid is an effing alien, so take driver ability as 80% of these results. Next, for Sunday's race, it was the perfect storm of things falling in his favor. He chose slicks for damp conditions and the FWD car was perfect. The ND's were hanging on to his tail until he was able to put a couple TC class cars in between himself and them, and with open track he just pulled away.

The driver in the FRS isn't nearly as good as some of the front runners. Two years ago when Tony Rivera was running one in TCA, he nearly won the championship until a bonehead move at the last race at MRLS.

Finally, PWC works very hard at Balance of Performance, or BOP, so it's hard to take PWC results as how a completely stock street car would do versus another in the same class. Tom's car was very heavy and down on boost for the first race weekend at VIR. They gave him 2psi back and took 75lbs out of the car for CTMP and that seems to have put him pretty on par with the ND's which are the benchmark for the class. PWC is also very well aware that Tom is an alien, so they're going to "keep things interesting" and make sure his car is competitive (and not overly competitive) with him behind the wheel as long as he's the only one running that car this year.

Stock tire size for the 10th gen Si is 235/40R18 which also happens to be the same size as the Civic hatchback Sport. The Type R wears 245/30R20 tires. I don't know if they can go any wider than the Type R at the moment.

I occasionally visit the CivicX forum to follow up on impressions and specs on the new Si and find that most early reviewers agree that it's decent package all around for the price point. Handling is much improved over the last gen, but turbo lag and rev hang is evident, doesn't like to rev very high, and traction control cannot be completely defeated.. at least not yet anyways. There's more to share, but it might be easier to just check out the reviews for yourselves.

Oof, it's a shame so many "fun" economy cars are straddled with undefeatable computers, but probably inevitable given that almost all are open differential FWD's relying on brake vectoring to get any sense of rotation out of them.

Like the 86, you just gotta know what you're signing up for when you bring one home.

The Si has a larger turbo from the CRV and a better intake system + exhaust - I expect a tune to make more power than what they got out of the hatchbacks.

Once they tune out the rev hang it should be a blast!
