Racing Brake Front and Rear Kits

Okay I bit thebullet and installed a front and rear BBK on my BRZ… I’m not too big on postingetc but I used this site soooo much when I trying to make decisions on my car Ifeel obligated to “feed the system”. Ilooked at every kit out there I think… I considered just a rotor/pad kit andevery other available option. After too many hours of research I decided RacingBrake was the best direction. And I won’t say that I never looked back becauseI certainly have, many times and every time I do I reconfirm that I absolutelymade the right decision. The battle between drilled/slotted/fish hook seems tobe a very dynamic battle of semantics and perspectives all difficult to processwhen contemplating a significant purchase. RB addressed this of course with thedrilled slots that makes perfect sense and works like a champ. Also the splitveins are a unique and logical step to address limitations of standard ventingand cooling again works great as well.

The reasonsfor buying brakes made for a pretty short list...basically weight and appearancebeing the primary ones… the stock brakes seemed to work quite well even withthe tire and wheel upgrade…But after using these brakes for a half dozenautocross weekends the actual braking performance is now at the top of that list,and really easily justifies the purchase… the weight drop and appearance gainsas totally bonuses!

AgainI am not a perpetual blogger so I did not do a great job.. or any job.. oflogging images of the process etc.. but I will add pics at some pointsoon. I appreciate this community beinga resource, it certainly has a great deal of value to a new owner.

Your rear rotors still show the cross-hatch.

Did this kit change the braking balance/bias front-to-rear?

Nice. Can you give specs on weight savings? Also, do you still have use of your parking brake?

Initially I believe it did to some degree because I was running different pads front and rear. The XR70's in the front and ETs in the rear. Still worked very well but for my primary use of autocrossing the fronts were really aggressive... more than what's necessarily optimum for below 70mph.I just switched to the XT910's all around and felt an overall improvement with both modulation and; difficult to tell but; probably bias as well.

Don’t recall the weights off the top of my head but it's on their website. And yes that is 1 of the unique features of this setup OEMparking brake is fully functional no change/adjustment whatsoever. Just had to trim the splash guard like they show you on the site… wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, used standard tin snips and a 4” grinder to clean up.

Until you're exceeding the thermal capacity of the stock brakes on good pads, there's no need for a BBK.

The weight savings is nice, but the money is better spent on entry fees or tires.

There are other benefits though. I stopped tracking the BRZ but I made up a good bit on consumables savings towards the price of the kit before I stopped

Agreed, but if you're at the level where you going through more than one set of rotors and multiple sets of pads in a year, you're probably also beyond the thermal capacity of the stock stuff.
