Mine cost so much because there was so much damage done when the bearing melted down.

Do you have a fully equipped shop with a lift? Laying on the garage floor will indeed take longer.

Which was ultimately why I paid someone else to do it. The thought of wrangling the transmission with the car on jack stands was not appealing to me.

It was a cold night in January, back on the farm in Ohio, when I pulled my old Chevrolet up on cement blocks, sitting on an uneven dirt floor, in a drafty barn. The kerosene lamp was flickering when I started to unbolt the transmission - ahhhhh shit, I've told this story before -
