2013 FRS 10 Series / BRZ Smartkey REMOTE START

Ok, I am an Autotech at Best Buy in Meridian, MS and have wanted to do a Remote Start (Viper Smart Start) ever since my first install, it is an awesome feature, and would come in handy both in the summer to cool down the car before I get in when I get off work and in the Winter to warm it up first. Its also a great tool to help with theft if you get the right Viper system.

The problem is, to install a remote start on modern cars you have to rely on Immobilizer Bypass modules. The main two that we use here at Best Buy are FlashLogic FL-CAN and Xpresskit DB-ALL. Which, as of now, neither are combatible with the Push to start system on the 10 Series FRS or BRZ Limited.

I am kind of set on adding Remote Start to my FRS, so I will be checking in on compatibility with the smart key / push to start systems weekly and will add an update here once there is a way.

I also don't mind doing a DIY once it can be done, if people are interested.

If anyone knows of any other way, I would love to hear it.

here are some screen shots from the BB weblink to Flash Logics Site. BRZ/FRS made the main page (but only for standard key.)

They dont even acknowledge that there is anything but standard key for FRS because the 10 series was the first time it was offered and it just come out last month.

More Info on Viper Smart Start.

This is what I plan on getting:

Viper 5904 Responder HD SuperCode SST 2-Way Security and Remote Start System (Smart Start Compatible)

VSM250 Viper SmartStart GPS Module

Of coarse, with my discount, I get both for around $450.

46

Now you can remote start, lock and unlock your car just by pushing a button on your smartphone; using the Viper SmartStart App from Directed, the leader in vehicle security and remote start. The simple graphical interface gives you control over the following features of your installed Viper remote start or security with remote start system:
  • Lock / Arm
  • Unlock / Disarm
  • Remote Car Starter
  • Trunk Release
  • Panic
  • Aux Channels
You can also control multiple vehicles – great for families! – and assign more than one user to control a vehicle. It's easy with SmartStart!

But, this is only the beginning! Viper SmartStart is loaded with additional features including GPS tracking, SmartSchedule, vehicle status, roadside assistance, home control, parked car finder and more.

3.0 enables a "Cloud-Connected Car" like never before, providing an entirely new level of 2-way interaction with your vehicle. Connectivity is managed through the Directed Cloud Services (DCS) network linking car, app, end user, and the Internet.

Thanks for this. I am in MN where it gets cold as hell and have a push start BRZ.. Very interested in what you find and how much. My biggest problem will be range. My parking garage is several blocks from my office....

The Viper 5904 has about a 1 mile range, not sure how well it would work with it in a parking garge.

But the Smart Start has unlimited range, as long as the car can receive cell service (which is how the smart start works.)

I do expect that when all is said and done, and they release a firmware that works with the push to start models. it will still require 2 bypass modules on top of the viper systems. So for the full security system like the one I want, you would be looking at a total somewhere around $1200-$1500 installed. which sounds like alot, but you really won't ever have to worry about your car being stolen.

If you just wanted the Smart Start system, that should only run around $500-$600 installed at the Max.

thats not a Smart key model. as I stated this is only an issue for the 10 Series and BRZ Limited models.

The regular FRS and BRZ Premium are both compatible with the currently available flashes.

Thanks, I am really just thinking Smart Start. $500-600 is probably my max too

I just found this, and I think its been brought up somewhere on this forum before.

But this is a great addition to the standard FRS (non 10 Series) and BRZ Premium (not Limited)

I wish I could install one.

This is the reason I made this post, Thanks for the great find. Ive never even heard of this.

I've never even looked in the SoleX Category on Xpresskit.com, which is where this thing is located.

Anyways I just ordered it from Best Buy. Link

I will let you guys know how it works once it comes in.

Nice! That bypass module actually looks like it would make installation incredibly simple. Since it tricks the car into thinking the key is inside of it, all that should be required to do is Use the remote start module to trigger a relay that connects two of the pushbutton wires to "trick" the car into thinking the button was pressed as usual

Oh, and also a relay would need to be used to trick the car into thinking the clutch is pressed

The only issue with a alarm/starter combo with the smart key is how the car will react when you get in the car with your key. The second you press the brake pedal, the starter brain will cut out. Either the car stays on and the real key takes over or the car shuts off. I am going to guess the car will get confused and turn off. We may have to wait till idatalink figures it out.... may be why its taking forever to release.
