Who would want 12,000rpms to play with?
The 42psi turbo would be sweet, but 12,000rpms would be sweeter.
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UwI-Rtuc38"]The 12,000rpm Subaru called Betty 😲 | Built by GotitRex - YouTube[/ame] So destroking the engine...this would be removing stroke, so the piston doesn't travel as far. This reduces piston acceleration for a given rpm meaning there becomes a potential higher rev limit for the block. To do this one would need to build a custom set of light-weight, rods and a custom crank shaft, right, then build the head? The head would need some stiffer and lighter weight components like titanium springs, right? Would compression need to change? What needs to be changed for the transmission to handle the rpms? |

Fuel pump can only handle 8200 Rpms so was of time unless you change this too.

If you are speaking about FA20 engine in ours, you'll hit oiling problems way way before 12K rpm. In fact, you probably won't reach even 9000, at least if you care for engine to outlast one race, with 8200 being more probable upper limit.

Yeah but did they get rid of the torque dip?

More revs mean more wear, right?

Yes. Unless unless everything's coated with unobtainium.

If you want to spin a motor to 12-13K buy a vehicle with a motor that spins 12-13K - A ZX Kowalski, an R1, or a CBR-RR Honda would be a place to start. You'll probably shoot your eye out, but it will probably hurt less than trying to spin an FA into five figure territory.

But a slightly more serious question is why? I mean 12k rpm is all well and good but from the little I have seen of modified Subaru engines big power is available at "normal" rpms. What benefit does high rpm bring?

Not 12K rpms but this is probably the closest you'll get with an FA20 http://elementtuning.com/competition...r-wrx-fa20dit/
If I had the funds for a no expense spared build I'd be buying one of their turbo blocks with the big valve heads right now. Honestly seems like not bad of a deal for the upgrades done. They are not you're typical "built" motor.

Where the high rpm's give you benefit is where you can extend the power band of the BIG turbos out there. It's one of the many reasons you can see Evos running well over 1000whp from a 4 cylinder. They have built the engines to see excessive rpm's allowing for a turbo that will flow that much air to spool.
