Most important thing in this thread. It's completely normal for water to get in the oil from the combustion process (as is fuel), and getting up to proper temps removes it through the PCV system. Running too cool would cause a buildup of these contaminates leading to eventual damage (water doesn't lubricate as anyone who has had fun time with someone in a shower can attest to )

I think I'd rather just run an oil cooler rather than play around with oil viscosity which deviates from the listed spec for the engine.

I added the oem oil cooler but i am still na. Ive noticed that average running temps are basiclly the same with or with out it, but on track once you lay off heavy throttle the oil cools very fast back to 210 ish

Interesting to hear that the average temps are basically the same with/without the OEM cooler, but that temps drop down to 210 off throttle.

If you want a comparison to a Perrin external oil cooler (NA setup), here is a data log from my last track day:

http://datazap.me/u/darksunrise/data...og=0&data=1-10

Oil temps stabilize around 230 F (about 8 min in), with short peaks of 235 F. Coolant temps stabilize around 200 F.

One thing I don't like about the Perrin setup though is it seems to increase IATs by 10F or more, probably because of how close the oil lines come to the stock airbox.

Stock radiator (as flimsy as it looks) actually doesn't need replacing. Tested extensively on track my multiple people at 300+ whp FI even.

If you allow your oil to cook (past 250 F) then the coolant will start coming up too regardless of radiator. Keep the oil at a good temperature and the stock radiator works fine.

ya on highway cruising its like 205 210 but on track ive hit 245 with the cooler while pushing but its not just off throttle just when you drop rpm and do a cool off lap. Ill log it next track day and post it on datazap as well.. i didnt go external because of the low oil pressure issues with this engine

i got much warmer and even my oem radiator seemed to perform just fine. more info in the forester oil cooler thread here.

Just had my first track day and monitored my oil temps very carefully throughout the day with the oft. At first i was afraid of going over 245 but when asking aeound some people were backing off when they reached about 250 degrees f. Anyways it was a hot day, 100degrees, and when i was going down the straight at thunderhill i noticed about 258 to 260 degrees oil temps.. thats when i started taking it easy.. forgot to mwntion im running royal purples 5w30.

Anyways i guess this is more of a statement then a question and just wanted to share that even na i was hitting crazy high oil temps granted that i dont have an oil cooler.
