I drive a '17 brz and my friend drives a '16 miata. Both great cars. Miatas are a little faster because theyre lightweight. Softer, more refined ride. The fkn brz is a more serious feeling sportscar. You really have to rev the snot out of it to make it go quick.

They are almost away from goofy looking faces on the front end of the Mazdas. Almost, but not quite there yet.

Would have bought a Miata instead of FRS if it had 2 back seats - not that I'm regretting FRS purchase, but that inline four is special, and it's likely 1 of 4-5 cars produced that feels discernibly lighter than the FRS.

Miata ride, motor and tranny w/ FRS chassis would be damn close to a perfect car...

I've had a chance to sit in the new RF and the standard MX5 and while I LOVE the car, I do not feel safe in it on the track.

Why?

Me with a helmet means I have less than 2" from the windshield. I KNOW I will smash my head into it in a crash.

But the Maza motor and tranny could suck in the heavier car. Same as a Miata with a back seat and the changes required to have it would no longer feel like a Miata.
Now a Miata with an FRS engine may be a beast.

I'm sorry but the FA20 doesn't belong in anyone's hypothetical 'perfect' car...

Care to explain? There are many fans of the engine. I personally will take one over the Mazda stuff any day.

Do you know many modern (low emission) NA engines that have an output of 100hp per liter? The FA20 is a very good engine.

The FA20's power curve resembles a poor man's VTEC with a crater in the middle. Couple that with the fact that it sounds like domesticated tractor and you can see why it doesn't belong in any dream car.

I know it's tough to consciously ignore a bias but come on man, there's plenty of better 4 bangers out there. The Miata's being one of them. S2000 inline 4 another.

Never been a fan of an inline 4. I have however enjoyed a few boxer engines. Funny you use bias while demonstrating a heavy one yourself. Everybody's idea of a dream car is different and a Mazda in,ine 4 would have zero place in mine.

How am I demonstrating bias? I own an FRS. Get off your horse bud, I've seen you all over this forum poking and prodding people.
