New to me daily driver.. 95 M3.
So I started looking for a DD that I wouldn't give much of a fuck about (BRZ still has zero door dings, etc) to drive to the shitty garage here at work, drive around town, keep miles off the BRZ, etc. I can't justify any random normal car for a DD so I started looking for an E36 M3. Specially a 95.
I almost bought one, then found out a good friend of mine was looking to buy the same car. Let him have that one and bought one from another buddy who dumped a lot of cash into maint (headwork, cooling system, all bushings replaced, chassis reinforcements, etc). Ended up spending a little more than I wanted but the work done to it means I should only spend 1-1.5k in maint this year instead of 3-4k The car was in Gettysburg, PA while my buddy lives in DC. So I flew up to DC and then packed the car, went to MD to drink with a bunch of ITR friends, and then started driving home... It actually did make it to Florida without a tow, but has preceeded to drop as much oil as possible along the way. By the time the trip was over I added over a quart. The VC gasket is leaking badly, maybe oil pan (hard to say due to run off) and maybe VANOS line. Either way, it's first $1,000 or so parts purchase will happen soon. Here's some pics of the kraut mobile. Sitting outside of PO's parents house: Watching a classic movie on the way home Rolling at ~80: Saw this badass ride in GA. NC plates "2QCK4U2C" - Looked like it was in great shape! Why I call these things German Mustangs.. fuel eco FTL: Finally home... And in it's new hiding spot: So now the BRZed gets to rot.

Congrats! I've gained a new appreciation of these cars since I started tracking with BMW club a bit. They're fun cars for sure on the track, and have that additional oomph in the midrange, which I'm sure comes in useful in daily driving. They also have that understated, toned-down look which I like.

I find it funny you are calling it a DD but it's leaking oil and you expect it to require 1k in repair after one road trip that encompassed less miles than an oil change
GL with your "new" car. And people in your hood have a lot of cars, wtf |

Congratulations! Always have been a huge fan of the older BMW. I see all the new ones all the time, since we work with Mckenna. Can not go wrong with BMW

1k in maint is less than I normally do (I've spent more up front on a very very reliable and issue free Integra Type-R). I don't trust any previous owners including friends.. All of the normal maint items will be done. I don't wait for stuff to really break. DD = beat on to and from work. If it gets dented, DGAF. If it gets wrecked, DGAF. We don't have basements here, I'm one of the few around me that put any cars in the garage, let alone two. I have shelving around basically the entire garage.

I need to get insurance on the kraut car.. based on previous experience it'll probably cost 60% what the BRZ does. Stupid BRZ is too expensive to insure IMO.

ha, I haven't sold anything from the BRZ yet. I do need to get off my ass though. My right ankle is swollen to twice it's normal size due to what I assume is a sprain (dr appt on monday.. yay..) so I'm mostly useless for working on either the new DD or the old DD at the moment.
Just hope my ankle clears up before Road Atlanta in a few weeks!

He's just about there. Waiting on some ARP bolts to arrive. He literally ripped the engine out of it about a month after he bought it, lol. Crazy dude, HUGE track guy.
Pardon him….he's French….. And the new motor that will be going in when the ARP bolts arrive. You bought a great car, Dave! I'm very tempted to get rid of the FRS and pick one up. Very similar ideas as far as light weight, great handing is concerned and you can pick up a clean E36 M3 for $10k or so! Once again, congrats on the purchase! If I could find a good 4dr E36 M3 with a manual I'd scoop it up. I can't really justify having two, two door cars.
