Here are the pics i got from my experiment today.

looks like we either need to find another car that uses a larger flat type antenna to mooch off of or fabricate our own non-shark-fin type shells to go over the stock housing. Any ideas?
This is a great follow up to my DIY post on #42. The multiple soldering points is useful if you're going to stack more functionality modules ie sms gps module to know where your car is.

Has this been done yet? I think its a definite alternative to the large sharkfins.

Hey all,

I decided to finally pull the trigger and do this mod. I cannot stand the look of the stock antenna. I decided to go a different route than everyone- I decided not to unsolder/ resolder any of the connections. It took a bit of patience but I was able to disconnect the 3 terminal from the plug.

Since I have a BRZ, I opted to stay with the antenna internals I had (minus sat radio- don't care about it). With some small modifications, everything went great. Sorry for the links for photo's for some reason, it wouldn't post them.

To remove the terminals from the plug, you really just need patience. It took about 35 minutes from start to finish. The '3rd' plug (tiny one between the two antenna plugs) was the hardest. If you look very carefully at the front you can see exactly where you can stick a needle (yes I used a sewing needle) and lift. The releases the plug for you to pull out.

First modification I made was to the board. I cut two of the bolt holes to allow it to fit into the cover. The board would be plenty snug and would not need to be screwed down.

I pushed it into the top case and noticed it would sit perfectly so I cut (dremel) out the 4 posts that held in the original sat. antenna.

All installed and back together!

No one makes em for this car yet. It's using other cars antennas and DIY gig at moment.

Its alright. Almost every start up (but not all which is interesting on its own) it says 'antenna error', or p'lease check antenna' (cannot remember which). This is most likely because I left the Sat radio antenna unplugged and out of the car. I may see if I can get rid of the message or plug it back - if I can secure it from rattling around in the headliner.

There is one station that used to always come in HD but now doesn't (it is far away and comes in like crap now). I honestly don't know if it is because I have it plugged in to the wrong side, or if it really needs the 4 inch antenna. I did not mark the terminals when I removed them from the plug.....would need someone with a BRS to tell me where they go. I also try and avoid using the radio because I hate listening to the same crap over and over. I did this mostly for cosmetic reasons.

Subscribed to this thread so I can jump in on the first order. Like others, the Beatsonic solution is way to big and doesn't suit the car (personal preference).

Can someone with a BRZ tell me which antenna (Sat. vs am/fm)terminal goes into which side of the plug? My reception has been really spotty- and I think I have it connected incorrectly.

I'm in the same boat as you. I am having my car wrapped in XPEL on Friday. I want to find some sort of plug in white to match the car and stop water and rust...

Any ideas? Someone needs to come up with this. The roof will look so much cleaner. We shouldn't be listening to the radio with this car anyways!

Looks like I am getting closer to a solution. I will have to visit the local hardware store and check out the plumbing and screw section.
Flush, threaded hole plug and a sealant washer. Will have to get a Whiteout plug.

That looks good, but sealed up with windshield adheasive should keep it watertight for good.
