Yeah he knew, he was actually a legitimately very nice guy and at first glance quoted me $1500, which I thought was very reasonable. But once he popped the hood and added it all up he came to $5500. I mean I honestly don't think I'll pay that much no matter what, as I'm not going to spend $1300 on a single headlight either way. Anyways I told him for that much I'd have to get insurance involved and he just told me to let him know.

The thing is I just don't understand how painting a hood and bumper cover and slightly straightening out the radiator support = 31.4 hours of work.

I'm going to go around to a few shops and see what they come up with, DIY isn't really an option because I'm posted to a training base right now so I have no garage, no home (other than the barracks) and hence no tools to work with.

And I don't mind spending $2-2.5K but $5500? I mean.... come on...

Keep in mind he is in Canada. That price is about as low as you will get for that work. The 8 inch slice in my rear quarter was $2,000.

The work is time consuming. They have to take all the broke stuff off, repair what is bent, replace with good parts, mask off the rest of the car, blend in the paint, unmask and clean everything up.

Still worth getting more quotes.

Yes, car ownership while living in barracks means you are limited for resources. Been there. What base are you on? You can check the local threads here http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=19 for guys that may be able to give you a hand or make recommendations. Most of them are pretty good guys. You may even manage to pick up a cheap headlight and other parts through the classified ads.

Got some more quotes and yeah looking like $5k to get it back to brand new looking.

I'm just going to get a Seibon Carbon fiber hood and fenders and have the bumper cover fixed and the rad support pulled back. I was quoted that with the parts I provide to have everything pulled back into place and the parts installed it would be around $2k. So In theory it would still be cheaper for me to go Carbon than OEM, especially if I don't get the fenders.

The car just got tired of being stock I guess, time for some carbon fiber, coilovers, wheels. Fuck it.

Well I'm in Trenton currently but I'm out in Cornwall on course. But I'm in the midst of an occupational transfer out of the Air Force to combat eng (I know, I know, I've obviously gone insane). So sooner or later I'll be over in Gagetown.

Trenton is a good base, Cornwall is fine. Gagetown is a little slice of hell on earth.
I would 100% rather be c eng than air force any day. The Canadian air force is an excruciatingly boring job 80% of the time. Most of my time was spent on air bases. The food was better though!

Check with http://www.ft86club.com/forums/member.php?u=147385 as he has a drivers side headlight for sale that he mentioned in this post: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126994
Has to be cheaper that what the body shop wants.

You either have time or money. If you don't have money than you probably have time to fix it yourself. If you don't have time than you probably can make the money. If you can avoid insurance it always saves you money in the long run.

Look at classifieds. You can buy a used headlight and a used front bumper from someone who went aftermarket. Then you just need paint and they can do the bumper cover off the car.

Like everyone said, you need a second set of wheels with snow tires on this car if you are that far north. The stock Primacy tires are the worst thing I have ever driven in the snow, they might as well be racing slicks.

He is training in the Canadian military. Believe me he has neither the time nor the money at this point in his career.

Did you make sure to get a high interest rate on the loan?
