Got new tires installed on the rear. Driving home the car felt weird. It was really twitchy, hard to keep in a straight line. Got home and checked the pressure. 45 psi.
I don't know how many times this has happened to me. It could be downright dangerous.
Brought the pressure back down to 33 and everything is back to normal.

LOL. 45psi with new tire tread squirm and mold release agent still wearing off. Ridiculous. Why do clueless tire shops do that?

Same people that consider the "click" of a torque wrench as the starting point. Assholes.

Oh I can beat that story. The wife had to put new tires on her Plymouth Laser RS Turbo. She arranged to go straight to the Goodyear Store after work to have the job done. She paid for everything while the tech worked on the car. When it was done he drove it up to the door. He got out; she got in and drove off. She didn’t get 300 meters down the road and the thing was wiggling all over. She stopped and found all the nuts were loose! Now she should have just walked back and raised shite. But, she tried to hand tighten the nuts. Then drive a bit, hand tighten and drive a bit until she got back. The manager said they’d fix it right away. They discovered two chrome nuts where missing so they just put on some old rusted crap they had laying around. Then they wanted her to pay for the missing nuts and they’d order them and call her when they came in. She phoned me and handed the phone to the manager. I set him straight. He agreed to pay for the nuts.
When she got home I found that two of the rims are damaged. It was clear that the tech didn’t remove the rim weights. So the machine just pushed them around leaving huge gouges. Furthermore, the alignment dots were way off form the valve stems. One rim had so much weight I was surprised the tech didn’t clue in to the fact. Another rim had rim weights on the outside but also had stick-on weights on the inside, opposite to the rim weights. And the tire pressures were astronomical!

I called the manager and raised shite with him. I told him that he’d better come good for everything! I drove the car over the next night and showed him everything I’d found. He disputed each and everything I pointed to. Wasn’t his guy, they didn’t do that, what do I know about mounting tires and alignment dots etc. etc. However, when I showed him the amount of weights on the one wheel and said my next stop was to the police and then a safety center he changed his tune. They did break all the tires and reposition them so the dots lined up with the valve stems. I pointed out that the tech started the first wheel without removing any weights. The manager yelled at the guy. He said he never does and what difference does it make… The manager made him removed the weights.
Bottom line, they never did fix the gouge marks. I complained to Goodyear head office and got the run around. Franchise stores can do what they like. If you have a problem take it up with the owner, Goodyear Canada won’t get involved!
To this day I will not knowingly purchase anything with Goodyear products on or in it. That store continued business for many years but is now closed.

Jesus tap dancing christ. Reminds me of my own hellish experience with getting 4 new tires mounted from a local tire shop that ended up negligently damaging, in multiple different ways, each and every one of my $500/each wheels on my old car and then refused to admit responsibility.

Yeah
I usually buy my tires online from Discount Tires Direct and have them shipped to my house. I bring the new tires and the old wheels/tires to the shop and have them mounted. I then install them on the car so I can strip the lugnuts myself. Plus I don't have to worry about some fat pimply faced kid who doesn't know how to drive a stick drive my car.
But I didn't do that this time. I had the tires shipped to the shop and had them mount them there. I told the guy to be real careful with the lugnuts because the strip easily. He said they put them on by hand, turn them 5 turns then drive them to 70 lbs with the gun, then tighten by hand. I said exellent.
I'm sitting there waiting for my car to come out and here it comes. What a beautiful car. I have never seem it from this perspective before. The guy goes to park it and I'm thinking, don't hit the bumper!
Out steps this fat pimply faced kid and I'm thinking I hope he didn't crush my seat.
I think I'll go check my lugnuts now.

I saw this the other day and laughed. They curbed the wheel so good it looked like it was part of the wheel design

could be intentional lol.

Accidental curbing on one side, then just kind of go for the rest to try to even it up, of course that would take alot of concentration and coordination to make sure you dont curb the same spot lol.

I physically shivered looking at that wheel. Like nails on a chalkboard.

Looks like they missed a spot. Better luck next time.
