Urgent help requested on exhaust install
Just finished installing a Magnaflow 15157 exhaust on my 2017 BRZ all according to the documentation. But when I started the car, I noticed it would make a rattle/ticking/clicking sound during acceleration and turns. So I reinspected the whole thing to find this one spot right next to the resonator that only has about 1mm of clearance.
What can I do about this? I'm not sure how else I can adjust the orientation to get it further away from the frame. Getting seriously frustrated. Did the frame design change slightly with 2017s? Not seeing anyone else with this same issue. Last edited by Vdub; 05-20-2017 at 06:45 PM. |

I used the stock hangers as the documentation suggested. There is very little wiggle left and right. I can move it forward and back, but not enough to clear the frame from the resonator.

Without contacting Magnaflow about it, I would try the longer hangers since you can't wiggle anywhere.. Unfortunately there's not much options down there. You might try getting back down there, loosen everything and see if magic happens.

Bubba says to take a crowbar, pry the exhaust pipe away from the frame and then use baling wire to keep it away from the frame.

I sent Magnaflow a customer service message (which I usually assume will just be ignored). I guess we'll see what they advise.

Magnaflow uses a band clamp between the sections of the exhaust.
You need to loosen the band clamps and rotate the center section. |

Rotate the cat back 180 degrees, you can see the bend in the tube before the resonator. That should provide the clearance you need

In fact, given the setup bolts to the chassis right there, I don't think longer hangers will help much either. I also think it isn't likely to move much there. Few taps with a hammer, all will be well. |
