Aloha! Love Hawaii! My family lives on the big Island.
The community my family lives in is so amazing! Every one hangs out together. It's like a TV show or something. I couldn't believe it!

But not all islands. Bahamas is Rush Hour in the ocean and that's it

It is on the cliff looking down on Wiapo Valley. I'm very lucky to have spent time right there. I took this picture.

I don't live on a Pacific island but I do live in an isolated, rural area on the Pacific. It's a sacrifice to live here. The pay is less, jobs are limited, and the living standards are lower. Even though the cost of living is cheaper, you have less extra money for luxuries. I prefer this sort of life. There is a lot less to worry about and the pace is more my speed. It certainly helps that I can enjoy some of the best mountain roads. And I typically have these roads to myself. Here "traffic" is when we drive through Eureka during the day and actually *gasp* have to stop for traffic lights. It's a nice place to vacation and safer than many places. But most people would not be happy here unless they bring a lot of money with them.

One of the more well known scenic routes for tourists. But nowhere near my favorite. Highway 101 is a boring interstate through here. Oh and for your safety, don't travel here after dark. This is bigfoot country.

I was planning on driving the road to Hana and driving through Hana where the rental car company tells me not to drive (because I don't wanna drive back cliff side lol...) anyone know what I should be aware of if I do this?

I believe rental insurance doesn't anything for that.
no barriers on some parts of the road if you go off the cliff.
very dark
very narrow
not as much of a short cut as you think cause the road doesn't link to wailea, it actually goes all the way back to the north part of the island

I wouldn't recommend it for senior tourists or people who simply don't enjoy driving. But since this is an 86 community, I would recommend it. But even for me who enjoys driving, I would only do it once. Don't drive back the same way you came.

I drove it and damn it was pretty entertaining.... After passing Hana it got a little hairy.... But nothing I couldn't do. Luckily the day I did it the brush fire was finally under control (according to the news some idiot deliberately set a brush fire by the road after Hana... Took out over 4 acres of beautiful scenery. Why someone would do such a thing to an amazing place is beyond me) . Definitely glad I didn't drive back the way I came and that there was sun light the whole time I was driving.
