I've heard this too, and this was back in the 70s. Cars are much safer at higher speeds now, but the speed limits never went back up.

My guess is to be able to ticket people more often.

Tickets are revenue. You better believe this is a factor in keeping speed limits artificially low.

( Mothers Against Drunk Driving).
I've read a while back that they were a reason that speed limits are what they are nowadays.
I wish they put a toll on 66. I'd pay for it all the time.

Also! Most cars emit low amounts of CO2 at the current speed limits that at 75 mph. Darn environmentalists.

my gripe with VA is the "over 80 is reckless" yet there are speed limits on the highways of 70mph.

granted, if you're over you're over.. /story. But, makes me wonder how many out-of-state drivers get nailed with that expensive RD ticket and dont even know its actually a criminal charge?

I wont even get into tolls. Meh.. gets me goin like this guy

Want a quick cool story bro? A day after I got my drivers license I drove my 94 corolla up 95 and I hit a 100 mph and was increasing. Got caught by an undercover and after about an hour of questions and making me wait, I was sent off with a warning. Since then I became a safer driver.
