2015
Once upon a time about 3 years ago I got the itch to replace my trusty bugeye WRX wagon with something a bit more modern and capable of better fuel economy for my commuting. I hadn't necessarily reached the end of my rope with the WRX but it did have 160k accumulated on it and was starting to show it's wear in various categories. It was a great car and I would buy one again if they were offered new. I didn't opt to replace it with a WRX again as the new cars had gotten kinda ugly (that is saying something coming from a bugeye owner). A far cry from their best looking years in 06-07. I made the decision to order a BRZ Limited devoid of any add-ons as I could source them in a more cost effective manner than the window sticker charge.

2/25/2015
Order Placed

5/3/2015
Vehicle arrived to dealer inventory. Delivery arranged for the end of June. The car was 10 states away in the Chicago suburbs. I was planning to pick it up when I went back to where I grew up for a friend's wedding.

6/25/2015
Delivery and drop off. Vehicle was picked up in the morning and promptly driven to The Tint Factory in Madison, Wi for XPEL Ultimate Clear bra install and 35% 3M Carbon Ceramic window tint. The vehicle was left until the following Tuesday.

6/30/2015
Pick up car and start the drive back to Phoenix.

No pictures from Chicago to Denver. It was early and very boring.

Driving through a mountain west of Denver

Winding along the Colorado River

North of Moab just before going into Arches national park to hike around for a bit

South of Moab

7/5/2015
Let the fun begin.

Enkei RPF1 17x9 +35 with some carry over tires I had from the WRX (had on the WRX for a day before I opted to order a new car)
Tom's Tails
Bilstein B14 Coilovers
Hotchkis front strut brace
FHI 4pot front calipers (carry over from the WRX)
FHI 2pot rear calipers (carry over from the WRX)
KNS Brakes rear adapter brackets
DentSportGarage shift knob (carry over from the WRX)
Toyota Armrest
Speaker Pads
Knee Pads
Rear Seat Armrest
STi Front Lip
Project Kics R26 Neo Chrome Lug Nuts

10/15/2015
Picked up a few exhaust parts from a local

Invidia front pipe
Invidia over pipe

-no install pics-

11/20/15
Encountered another local who was being transferred for work and parting out his car. He was moving to a northern climate and moving onto an evo. This made for an opportunity to get some nice bits at a very reasonable price.

STi Gurney Flap
Vortech V3 Supercharger
Turbosmart BOV
Mishimoto Oil Cooler (never installed - sold off as I'm not a fan of Mishimoto products)

The car sat in this format for quite a while.

2016

4/3/2016
Finally got around to installing the Vortech. Installed The JDM STi front and rear emblems at the same time that I got from JapanParts.com. Also replaced my Gurney Flap with a new one since the emblem wasn't staying adhered properly. It seems the earlier Gurney Flaps have a chiclet emblem and the later have a simple metallic sticker. Also added the OEM subaru diffuser.

4/10/2016 @nelsmar came over, told dirty jokes, and did the ecutek tune on my car.

7/11/2016
Installed a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports 245/40/17 to replace the worn and meh performance Dunlops that were on there. Also installed a set of Whiteline Com-C upper front strut mounts.

Hanging out with @asianCHAU

12/25/16
My mother in law gave me a JDM tS cluster hood cover. I feel as though the interior is now at a place that is the way the car should have been shipped. It seems all the new models get these items but early cars got cheaped out on.

2018

Installed tS aero panels

I never really got completely on board with my last wheel selection. The spoke shape/lack of even a little bit of lip bothered me. I was also not fond of the driving dynamic change from 17" to 18" wheels. So I took advantage of a promotion from one of our vendors and got myself a set of Gram Lights 57CR in 17x9 +38 and wrapped them in 255/40/17 Bridgestone RE71R. This brought a whole lot of enjoyment back to the car for me. There is a thread in here somewhere in which FT86SpeedFactory showed the 57CR fitment with the performance package Brembos as being about 3mm. I am not certain if there is a variance in STi Brembo thickness to BRZ as I have not had them side by side on a bench but I had less than a fingernail of clearance. Subsequently I have installed a 3mm spacer to gain minimum caliper clearance. I will be readdressing this soon with a set of hub bore/wheel bore centric 3mm spacers and longer studs. I have to break out the solidworks and send a drawing off to the machinist and I have been a bit busy with other things.

All photo documentation will be in posts here forward rather than be duplicated.

Great build! Good to know about the STI brembo clearance on the 57crs as that is an upgrade I have been considering.

18 clear without issue in 5x114.3 as it’s a common setup on STi. If the hub pad and spoke angle is the same on the 5x100 there is no trouble.

The 17” is where it gets tight. I like concave wheels. I could’ve easily gone flat face with tc105n and had miles of clearance but I figure I’m ugly, I should make the car that sits in the garage look good.

Uncertain. I like that the stock exhaust shape effectively acts as a diffuser. I intend to bribe Marin for some logging and maybe some tweaks once I hang the gutted stock manifold. Cat back will likely be stock modpipe and a modified stock muffler or the STi muffler. At the power level I exist at a 3” is overkill and most sureness would drone. I’ll give up 5-10hp to be happy with noise levels since the car gets used randomly/sparingly/my drive to SEMA for work each year/a run to California to be disappointed in an event.

Greddy Supreme SP catback also more or less keeps the same shape as the stock exhaust canister.

Or Greddy SP Elite axleback if you can find one used.

I will keep an eye out for an elite. I installed a sp on a friend's car. It was hard to gauge how it would sound on my car. On Chau's vortech'd frs he went through 2 or 3 exhausts before settling into a 3" melon shooter due to constantly blowing out the packing. He is running a ebcs/wastegate/smaller pulley setup on his and thus more cfm. I don't think I will ever be to that point but I have my concerns.

Through my desire to replicate as much of the tS as reasonably possible I bought the rear emblem. I could have gotten one of the $6 ones ft86speedfactory sells from aliexpress but would much rather have the oem one. The subaru one also comes with the foams for properly positioning/aligning it on the decklid.

A local also parted out his car years ago when he moved onto a new platform and had some stuff sitting around that he didn't want to move to his new home. I bceame the benefactor of a Fullblown motorsports radiator and mishimoto hose set. I have no idea when I will get around to installing this. It will probably happen in the fall after I recover from the vet bill I just received for my daughter's cat. I'll build an oil cooler to install at the same time with a mocal plate and mocal core. I am up in the air about using the socketless fittings and hose and oetikers or doing -AN.
