NorCal86 Annual Accounting & Year in Review

Well 2014 has come to an end and what an eventful time it has been. Back in March the community came together and elected a board to be a guiding force for the group. I, along with @PMok, @NorCalGirl, @MyRx, and @BunnyRZed have been hard at work all year and have enjoyed spending the time with the community we love. To wrap up that year in the transparent fashion we spoke of months ago I start this off with the following:

NorCal86 Profit and Loss Statement - 2014

Now, beyond money what else were we involved in this year you ask? Take a read below!

The year started off with Blox and Scion hosting a corporate event like in the days of Scion past. Thanks to our exposure through 86Drive we were lucky enough to be invited to a private exhibition in Incline Village, NV to watch Scion team drivers Ken Gushi and Fredric Aasbo tear up a hotel parking lot in their Formula D FRS and tC. And this was the day after we all hung out at the hotel bar having a good time.

Next up was our own annual meet in June, the Summer Kickoff. This is what takes the most time and planning to put together, especially when doing everything by the book. We had 90 cars and over 120 people come out to Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland for a killer show and BBQ. We had awesome support from vendors near and far in CounterSpace Garage (who drove up from SoCal), EQ Tuning, Vishnu Tuning, SpeedElement, FT86-Speed Factory, BeatSonic, EDGE Motorworks, Meng Motorsports, Dublin Toyota, and DSM Customs printing. These amazing sponsors provided us with killer raffle prizes from custom alignments, to HID kits, to a full Project Mu brake set-up with pads, rotors, fluid, and lines. And that is on top of them bringing out some sick cars and letting us pick their brains all day on the wide variety of set-ups seen. With that said, this year was definitely a growing year and we learned a lot to continue to improve upon for next time.

In line with Summer Kickoff was the launch of our NorCal86 merchandise. We had our limited run of event T-shirts and the introduction of our new club stickers. These have proven to be popular as we recently finished selling off the first batch we ran and had to reorder. Way to represent Norcal86! It’s exposure at various events showing off our club that gives us opportunities like that at Incline Village.

Just a few short months after Summer Kickoff we gathered together in a surprisingly large meet to celebrate 8/6 Day! On a Wednesday night in Fremont we had over 100 cars show up throughout the meet in the name of celebrating our cars and their heritage. Again we were reached out to from a new group in LocalFRS. They are a group of owners and enthusiasts who want to make the community better by linking regional groups together and showcasing our cars and meets to one another. This was their first year as well and they are looking to improve and grow in 2015 so I am excited to see what they have in store.

But our meets are not all that we participate in. There is a big world out there with shows the likes of BLOX Evolution, SEMA, Hot Import Nights, and the SF Auto Salon. We are lucky enough to have multiple members involved in these shows with @Feilong168 and @NorCalGirl showing and bringing home some trophies. Then there is @denkigrve showing off his car at the Project Ride booth throughout NorCal.

Along with our normal support of the 86Drive summer drive series and End of Summer meet (which had killer raffle prizes of their own) there was some different driving to be done thanks to @MyRx with the inaugural Norcal 86Cup series with Northern California Racing Club (NCRC). With 12 events and a growing group of participants the year ended with a full garage at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with Norcal and Socal getting together to send us into 2015 on a fast note.

And last but not least we have to remember to give back to the communities we live in, which we did by hosting our second annual ToyDRIVE. With the growth of the club we were able to benefit two organizations this year. In November we got together with Sac86 and the Okubo/APOA Judo Club at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento to hang out, eat, play games. Then in December we gathered at SpeedElement to support the Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland for the second year. If you didn’t get to attend you missed out on not only on SpeedElement’s #RatchetBunny FRS but also on Jeff Wolfson’s 2JZ swapped Formula D car and StanceNation’s founder bringing out his Aimgain Widebody FRS as well. Between the two events we donated over 330 toys which is a 30% increase from last year!

With all this joy we also had a large moment of sadness in the loss of @buzznasa. He was a dear friend to many and a flat out cool dude. We got together on September 20th for a cruise along some of his favorite roads and spread his ashes before meeting up with his other friends and family to send him off as he wanted. In support of his wishes we wanted to help his loving wife cover some of his final expenses. Using NorCal86 funds gathered from events and merchandise sales we ran the memorial stickers of Buzz’s infamous license plate “LOL PWR”. With the cost of the stickers covered by NorCal86; all money raised was given directly to Buzz’s wife.

So while this year of ups and downs has come to an end we are already looking forward into 2015. We will continue to grow as a community and as a board to help make this year great. We could not have done any of this if everyone was not so great and steps up when needed to volunteer at large meets or to run our local weekly and monthly meets to launching our Facebook pages to help reach more owners and enthusiasts. We do this all for you, so please talk to us. Let us know what you like, what you didn’t like, how you think something could be made better. But please keep in mind that this all takes a lot of work and manpower, so come and get involved at meets by seeing how you may be able to help. We all have something to offer to make this community better so don’t hide it.

So Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you all around

What a great year 2014 was for NorCal86. Thank you to all of you in the community who help make it what it is. We absolutely rely on your participation to succeed and we hope that together we can make 2015 another great year.

For those who wonder what's coming for 2015... I think we can safely say, expect more of the same great things we had last year. Stay tuned ...

The transparency, honesty, and sense of community you guys have is awesome. I'm really glad we have our group out here. I just wish I had more time to come hang out with you all. It's been a tough couple of months for the end of the year through now. Work has been a killer, but it's been fun coming to the meets I've been able to make it out to.

Thanks to everyone for keeping this community humble and fun. I may be looking for some other cars for the Project RIDE booth this year as my wife is pregnant, so I'm going to have to help her out in booth setup and maintenance/transportation areas. For those wondering, it's a boy. Hopefully this one will also be a big FRS fan like his brother is.
