I held off, however, for a couple of reasons. If you pop the hood, you'll notice that the hood hinges are right in the area where the vent would go. So, I have a hard time believing that a ton of air could flow through that spot. Also, I was concerned that rain would get in and then get stuck inside the quarter panel. Any thoughts on those issues?
You'd be quite surprised how much heat is released with those vents. After a hard drive, it will burn your hand if you hold it there too long.

Haha nice. That was my first time hearing crickets. Was that your car making the sound? If so, I'm surprised that it sounds exactly like crickets.

no, that was actual crickets the car wasn't running, but the "crickets" do sound just like that.

On the possibility of replacing the fake fender vents with real fender vents, I spoke with a body shop today and thought I should share a few points. First, I asked about using the stock plastic pieces on the BRZ cutting out the fake part and replacing with mesh. The problem with that approach is that would be cutting out four of the six plastic clips that secure it to the car. The Prova part only uses to fasteners, but it looks like they are metal screws. So, while the Prova parts are expensive ($399), it would be more secure than using the stock piece with only two plastic clips. The second issue to consider is getting rain inside the fender. The body shop recommended pulling the fender off, drilling any necessary holes at the bottom to let water out (and which wouldn't be visible after the fender is back on), and then spraying the inside to prevent rust. I am very tempted to do it.

I cut stock brz vents for mine. And only left one clip. I put double sided foam tape around the edges and it holds flawlessly, and releases a ton of hot air. I'll update my post later with pictures!

*EDIT*

I think I'm going to try this. The aftermarket plastic vents are like $400, almost what a vented hood costs.

This can be done for free, and looks like it might work pretty well.

That hood was also vented so it's definitely a science as to where venting should be to alleviate that pressure. I personally think that function fender vents would help substantially...but that would require some serious fabrication to make work well.
are u saying a vented fender would be a better option then a vented hood??
