We went to visit my parents final resting place. We stopped at my mother's last home. It was built by her older brother and she bought it from his estate after his passing. It was the first new home built in the village in the 20th century. It was also one of the first pre fab catalogue houses. It arrived on train cars. The whole town went down to the siding with hay wagons and buggies to bring everything to the build site just one block from the main four corners. The new owner is adding on and turning it into a duplex rental. Very sad for us but, time marches on. We also visited the woods and stream where I grew up. The wife and I spent a lot of time there as well, both before and long after we married. Funny story; The old highway went over the creek and there was a spill way under the bridge. Kids used stones and boulders to damn up the water just down stream of this spillway and it made a great swimming hole. When the wife and I were first married I was into drag racing and had a "sleeper" 1975 Chevy Nova. One hot Saturday afternoon the wife and I went swimming and there were a lot of younger people swimming as well. One teen came over to us, looked at the car and then at the wife and then yelled to all his buddies: "Hey GUYS! This is the woman that puts on the smoke shows out in front of my house!" Yep, she was BUSTED! Everything went fine until mid afternoon Saturday when the clouds opened up. We also had a terrible meal at one of those well known chain bistros. Sunday was another great day. We drove up to Markham, (part of the Greater Toronto Area) to visit one of our dearest friends and two of their girls. They put on a fabulous Macedonian meal. What is it about Europeans? It doesn't matter if their Italian, Polish, German they're all the same. They make great food and won't let you leave the table until you literally have to fall off your chair and be rolled to the sofa.  Monday we drove up to see our youngest grand daughter and drop off a card for our oldest who's off to college in September. I thought I had it tuff being 15 years younger than my sister. Our grand daughters are almost 18 years apart. |
