Think of it as a wiki page for any VIN.

Anyone can have the ability to curate and tell the story of a particular car. Our users choose to use the platform however they want -- I use it as a digital glovebox to document mods, service, etc. Some users chase peculiar cars, therefore we have lists of "Yellow Cars", "Save the Manuals", AMBER alert vehicles, McLaren P1 registries, etc.

In the case of my totaled FR-S, I found out from another VINwiki member that it eventually got crushed after passing through auction.

So in the case of your car, how would i go about locating that information within vinwiki? Do i need to create an account to actually view things?

This was not a real academic study. You can tell it was not a real scientist or mathematician who did it, because someone who actually understood the stats would know you can't reach the conclusion they stated from the calculations they made. This was more likely done by a staffer in the site's marketing department.

Agreed. Statistics can mean anything you need them to mean; it just depends on the data you use and how you decide to calculate it.

What I got from the article was, don't drive that particular car in that city or region, and you are golden. The BRZ was not listed in any of the states as the #1 offender; but pay particular attention to the ones that were.

What is considered a "low volume car"? They do not explain this? Is it based on total production across the year range, or per each year of production? 2k, 5k, 10k cars?

At the bottom of the article, they/Julie states how they did "their math"...

Only cars from model years 2013-2017 in crashes that resulted in occupant fatalities between 2012 and 2017 were included in the analysis. To adjust for exposure, the number of cars involved in a fatal crash were normalized by the total number of vehicle miles driven, which was estimated from iSeeCars’ data of over 25 million used car sales from model years 2013-2017 sold in 2013-2017. Heavy-duty trucks and vans, models not in production as of the 2019 model year or since the 2013/2014 model year, low-volume models, and models with fewer than 20 crashes with occupant fatalities were removed from further analysis.

edit: This silly (read "stupid") study is probably going to have an affect on the insurance rates for the cars that made this list. The article might seem inconsequential, but I bet insurance companies would be more than willing to make a few policy adjustments based on the "findings/results" of this study. Even though Jalopnik pointed out that the percentages are 0.0xxx to having a fatal crash, that just means to the insurance companies, that the likely hood of it happening is a proven thing.

Dear SoA, what petition do I need to sign to bring the LeVorg 2.0t 6spd to North America?

not really. 'accidents' are such a broad category that it's almost impossible to quantify.

my 1st brz was wrecked by someone else blowing a stop sign. it wasn't my error that caused it, attributed to it, or encouraged it. however, my brz is attributed with the 'accident', and categorically by those statistics, raises the accident risk level of every brz on the road.

it's no different than someone saying they're an 'accountant'. there's a dozen different categories of accountant, and few overlap beyond the initial process of adding/comparing/subtracting numbers.

you would never want a corporate accountant to do your private taxes, nor would you ever want an individual forensic accountant running your fortune 500 payroll!

This is expected, light small car vs larger cars. Will even get worse with heavy EVs. Plus we all know this car is so playful it makes you feel like Micheal Schumacher, but you can run out of talent pretty quick.

I agree that there are many reckless drivers, who go over the speed limit or who text and drive and there are accidents that we can’t prevent. That’s why it’s important to think about our own safety. In case of an accident, you should immediately contact your insurance company and, in case you can’t reach an agreement, don’t hesitate to contact a lawyer from https://puschnguyen.com/houston-car-accident-lawyer/ to discuss your options.
AHHH there is the spam link!
