So to owners who have experienced a CEL on low mileage, what is typically the cause? I've tried the gas cap already and don't have the time at the moment to get it checked out yet.

Thanks for reading!

Exactly. So, how should we know? "Hey, Internet, I got a check engine light. Don't have time to look into it. Any ideas?"

Seriously? SMH

Ok, I wasn't really clear about my agreement. Probably should've waited a while longer. #triggered

Exactly as I stated in my first response.

Oh, shit. I was too fired up to read through your whole post. I just read "Get the code read [more stuff trying to actually be helpful] ..."

And I just shut down.

Google will tell you to get a code reader, prices, and how to use it. That's the basic start.

Something tells me your google-fu is getting rusty.

Sadly today is a Saturday and most shops are closed. I swear I thought O'reilly checks CEL lights but turns out they don't. Also, only mods to the car is Perrin catback exhaust...........
Oh, my, Oxyg3n .......might I suggest that you unplug the car's battery for a few minutes, then plug it back in, to see if the CEL goes away and doesn't come back ....... maybe you will get lucky because the car(s) just hiccupped ........

Have you had the air filter out at all?

If so, make sure it was put back in correctly and that it is seated properly.

Liar! The blinker fluid leak is a much bigger issue on these cars

....... you're not being helpful ..... everyone (except you, apparently) knows that low blinker fluid on these cars will not trigger a CEL ......

Ahhhh but if he had thought of getting a code in the first place then he would not have asked the ambitus question and we may have actually been able to answer.

OH and a Google search of "what does a cel on my car mean?" did not have one response that said to read the code in the top 10 responses. They all either give the top 5 most common reasons (so pissing in the wind) or said to see your mechanic. So even at just being told to read the code he was ahead of the game by asking here where we at least said we are clueless without a code.

Well my OBDII scanner is coming in tomorrow.. But in the meantime I was thinking that although theoretically the catback exhaust itself has no sensor on it, is there still a possibility to get a CEL from changing it out?

Nah. You're safe with that. Not even near any wires/sensors.

Use the scanner when it comes and report back with the code. The good thing is since it is running fine with the code, and since it is a new car, it is most likely not serious plus any fix will be covered. But I am with you and would be very annoyed to get a code on a new car!

And for less than $20 total you have a code reader always on hand on your smart phone, along with a ton of other data you may not have even known you wanted to know about your car and what it's doing at any given time. Keep the adapter in your glovebox, and any time the CEL turns on, you can know what the code is in a minute, easy as pie.

And knowing is half the battle...
This, this, this.

I just bought one of these to help chase down a misfire in my truck and I was kicking myself for not spending the $25 to get this in the first place.

Prior to that, I'd been out there swapping coils and boots and plugs and injectors like a real mechanic.

It's like doing long division when there's a TI-83 sitting right there.

Your car is brand new....just take it back to the stealership....you have a new car warranty which you'll have to eventually take it back to them to fix the issue....
