The people who complain about this car's noise level... I wonder what would happen if they drove an MG Midget or Triumph Spitfire. They'd lose their damned minds. You'd see them on the side of the road streaming tears and retching up bile. I'd offer to give them a lift in my Gladiator, but 100 feet down the road they'd leap out into traffic and die.

86 is definitely a noisy car but that is one of the many reasons why I love this platform ^^ while not much wind noise, there is definitely a ton of road & tire noise..

But to be fair, pretty sure the 86s that were being passed around with the Supras had the TRD exhaust and coming from a 2013 that didn't have it, I can say that it definitely adds a lot of noise..

Ehh noisy was my 1960 Willys CJ5 with a built 225 odd fire V6 with headers and dual exhausts. I just turned the tunes up. When we use the Forester or our 06 Durango it drives me nuts because I can't hear anything other than my wife or kids chattering away.

Maybe that is why I think my BRZ is plenty fast and not uncomfortable either in ride or noise; I have owned a variety of British cars from the 50s and 60s. Austin Healeys, Minis (real ones), Triumph, MGs and a Morris Minor to keep me humble. I remember what it was like to drive a Mk I Sprite and a Mini Cooper between New York and Albuquerque. The room feels like it is moving for two days after. 50 years later, the BRZ for me is a luxury sports car by comparison. Our RV on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis is a lot more noisy. And more apples and oranges; our Subaru Ascent is limousine quiet. I think the biggest critics of any car are those who either don't own one or never drove one for more than an hour. Another illustration of car critic relevance is a recent video that compares a BRZ automatic to a Honda Civic Si. Maybe they ran out of ideas or maybe those are the only cars they could borrow that week.

The noisier the BRZ, the more weight you're saving haha. It's a little annoying at times, but I'd rather save the 100-200 pounds in sound deadening material. Plus, it makes it that much more exciting to play the "what did I do wrong" game after every maintenance interval or parts upgrade.

my 2006 4runner with 250k is almost dead silent compared to my 2015 brz with 45k..

The brz has a lot of squeaks and rattles too which are quite annoying..

still love it though!

It's only noisy if you're coming from a Camry-type car. If you're coming from other small economy cars (especially older models), the 86 is the same or more quiet than most of 'em.

Noise, like most other subjective things, is all relative.

I have never ever been in a working BRZ yet. I'm waiting for it. Time does not pass. I hope it is very very noisy

I have 2003 Honda Pilot with 188K, I can't even hear engine noise. I have turned ignition several times on already running SUV thinking that I haven't started the car, go figure. In fact, this SUV is so good on economy 60MP engine runs on 1500RPM and at about 70-75 it will barely touch 2000-2500 RPM.

Here is a quick way to shed some weight. Take out the spare tire, hand it to your passenger and say, “Here, check the tire pressure, I’m sure it’s low. I’ll be back in an hour or two.” Another one that I’m working on is to take the fork out of my mouth and not go back for seconds. Noise in the car? Turn up the radio. Louder. Keep going. Perfect. Passenger in the rear view mirror and got the tunes on the radio. Life is good.

If there is anywhere I don't want to shed weight, it's in the trunk/boot. Gotta keep those drive tires sticking to the asphalt! I agree with the passenger in the rearview mirror, though!

Pavement quality has a lot to do with the road noise obviously. 95 in south Florida has sections that are like cobblestone.

Thank your luck stars it's not a nosey car. Seriously, it's a sports coupe where every ounce of weight saving helps.. and I expect the type person buying a Twin would not be expecting limo type comfort etc..
