Windshield polishing?

After about 110k miles my windshield is all pitted and just generally beat up. Driving at night in the rain truly sucks and just having the light hit it wrong even during the day is no fun. I've seen a few products that look promising but hesitate to throw $$ at it and it not work as well as I need it to. Has anyone had good success with any particular product or process?

All the speciality glass cleaners are expensive , but just toothpaste + a lot of rubbing works well.
Toothpaste is also good for cleaning teeth, headlight covers, watch and clock faces.

This may sound silly but is there any risk of damage or a limit how many times you can d this? I recently got a DA and would love to do this.

I ask because i used a razor to clean my BRZ rear windshield and it got 2 long scratch. My new (used) car needs a windshield cleaning and clay is not cutting it.

Not to hijack a thread but are there professional polishing services available to get rid of the two vertical scratch lines on the door windows?

I was wondering if I should do that but replacement windshields never seal as well as original. I still may end up needing to do that because a few of the chips may not buff out well enough, won't know until I try.

I'd expect there would be. I hate when I scratch my own stuff I tried last year and clay didn't clean mine sufficiently either.
