17x9.5 fitment on 1st gen

Aside from the fact that it's pretty overkill on a car with so little power..

What exactly is needed to run this set up?

-17x9.5 with 255 or 265 tires
-https://www.apexraceparts.com/shop-by-vehicle/subaru/brz-frs/17x9-5-et40-apex-vs-5rs-forged-86-brz-wheel.html

The use case is mostly DD with occasional autox/track. Currently I have front and rear SPL control arms. Looking into getting RCE SS1, so with the camber plates I am assuming -3 to -3.5 should be achievable

1. In terms of clearance, will RCE SS1 be sufficient in getting the adjustments I need? Was researching this fitment and the Apex rep mentioned something about coilovers with slim silhouette (ref here)

2. In terms of performance dynamic, the goal is to run Hankook RS4 level of grip tire that will have at least some longevity compared to tires like RE71Rs. Would the standard spring rate and damping on the RCE SS1 "match" this level of size and grip?

I'm running those wheels, there is miles of clearance. Stick with a 255.

Can't help with RCE specific questions though

No worries! Thanks for the input.

Is there a particular reason why you recommend 255? Aside from the lack of availability in tire selection in 265 lol

Nice build btw....;( you are living my dream

Hehe, yeah, tire selection isn't great and you more or less need a 10" wheel to get more out of one anyway.

ahh, right. I am more familiar with the autox community that fits 255s on 8.0 width wheels lol, but I forget that you get no feel/feedback and proper sizing is ideal.

Just placed the order last night with Apex. Now off to coilover and tire shopping lol

Thank you!

Haven’t pushed past 7/10 but at least in the recommended settings, it’s more comfortable and street compliant than stock ts suspension. Looking forward to post alignment/corner balancing and seeing how it performs. Also I haven’t really seen many reviews about these Continental Extreme Contact Force tires so I’m curious how the car will feel like at 9/10 - 10/10 especially with the osgiken 1.5 way and the ts wing. Not sure if it’ll push more under braking on decel or something similar

Any issues rubbing the swaybar in the front at full lock?

OS Giken 1.5-way (with minimum breakaway/max negative preload) was just about the best thing I ever did with my old 6.8 liter LS3 FD. That diff was like magic, *never* overly locked up, *always* put all the power down. If I hated money a bit more I'd buy one right now for my '23...
