It could be totalled... If so, buy it back and use some of the rest of the payout to paint it.

There's not enough info here to give an accurate estimate.
-Does every single panel require repaint? Are all the scratches through the clear coat? Ive never been in a tornado but many hurricanes. The wind usually only comes from one direction. -Are there dents or just scratches? Doing fill and sanding labor is a bulk of most paintjobs. -Will the new paint color match the existing? Painting door jambs and under the hood will significantly increase the cost. |

As thin as the body panels on these cars are, it would be miraculous for there to be just scratches in the paint and no dents.

If you apply the exchange rate to one thing you need to apply it to the whole economy since applying it to just an individual product skews the results. Joe in the USA earns $40,000 USD a year so $10,000 USD is 25% of his income. Bruce in Australia earns $40,000 AUD a year so $15,000 AUD is 37% of his income. If we apply the exchange rate to Bruce's cost and income evenly then he is still paying 37% of his income and the product still costs 12% more than in the US. The US has far more buying power than most countries and that means things are usually cheaper. So, $15,000 AUD is $15,000 AUD not $10,000 USD and the cost of repairs is indeed that much higher in Australia.

Because Australia tax.
This is why I use to buy all my track car tyres from tirerack. What I pay $2000 for 4 here, I could pick up from the US delivered to my door for $1000. All $ are AUD....

For those following.....got the car home from school.
It was evaluated by Insurance this week. He spent 2+ hours looking at the car. He confirmed no dents only scratches. About $6 grand to repair. Several panels to be sprayed, new drivers side glass, new rear bumper, some other misc. parts. Done by a dealer. Not a dealer's preferred shop but a Toyota Dealer which is also a Body Shop locally. I've used the shop twice before and they were good to me for the Porsche and Honda. Went by and talked to them yesterday afternoon. Will need the car for 7 to 11 days. They are ordering the parts now. Panels that DON'T need to be repainted are: passenger quarter, p. fender, p. roof pillar, front bumper, hood, both Scion fender garnishes. To be painted are Driver's fender, D. door, D. quarter, D. roof pillar, Passenger's door, rear bumper replaced and painted, trunk, Trunk Garnish replaced and painted, roof. So far a decent experience. I'm out $50 for a deductible, a new tire. Insurance rates didn't go up at all. He learned how to deal with a situation away from home. $^%+ happens. He is only disappointed that I won't be pre-ordering him a Supra, lol. Car goes to Toyota first for valve spring recall then to body shop. Mechanics hands before fresh paint. Pocket the 6K and take the car to a good detailer. Don't bother with recall, car will probably run worst after repair. Run the car till it blows up, then use the 6K to do a proper build.
