Highly doubtful, the 86 sales are on a downward trend and will continue to decline, they will never sell as well as they did in 2013 without a radical redesign, upgrade, or massive price cut, and this upcoming 'refresh' is highly unlikely to be anything of significant value other than bumpers and a 'yota badge and maybe some fluff I don't give two fucks about. We might see a spike up to ~15k units in 2017/18 if the refresh is delivered by then and then another continual decline for another 4 years (therefore fewer units with 'Yota badges running around the Americas) and then it will be announced whether there will be a 2nd gen or if it's dead.

Just like every other RWD Japanese "sports car" in the last 20 years. Hell the North American Yota 86 could be fugly and sell even fewer units making Scion the common one and the Yota the rare one with the same performance.

I love how everyone on FB thinks there car is going to be rare now that Scion doesn't exist. Between June 2012 and Dec 2014 over 43000 FRS's were sold lol. I'm willing to bet the FRS will still be called the FRS just with a T badge now.

Will my FR-S badges give it a Scion tax of like $2000? So if my 23k FR-S is worth only 20k, with the Scion badges it's up to $22k?

So the AE86 gets the Initial D tax, we get the Scion tax? haha

IMHO with the Toyota badges, sells will go up!

This looks like it will coincide with the 2017 facelift model.

Maybe its a hint at the FRS 2.0 version! Maybe a little bigger engine or more significant performance updates in the works?

+1

Honestly, it'll depend on what Toyota plans to do with the FR-S. If they finally give her a name, add some more power, and do a kouki update that'll give this car some substance later on down the road.

Make the final production year a little more special and it'll be a classic 10-15 yrs down the road. However, having the Subaru association and not a true Toyota, it'll be a classic but not a legend.

Between 1970 and 1973/4, there were over 140k Datsun 240z cars brought into America, and while they are not super rare, say like a real Shelby Cobra, they are becoming pretty rare.
43,000? I'll take it.

The tC was already being phased out (as it said in the release) so really not much is changing here.

The cars are still built (with a logo change) in the same factory, shipped to the same locations, and sold by the same people. Very minimal change.
Just the logo stamp change on a single part could potentially void a contract(depending on the terms) or increase costs significantly or increase production time/backorder

And will also make it more expensive, probably by a large margin.

I would like for Toyota to keep the current exterior look which I love with performance upgrades. Sadly, I doubt this will happen.
