I think this might just be the "more power in my 86/BRZ" that we've all wanted. I'm hoping I am right, but it'll be just a sweet on handling (or better) than our cars... with much more power and hopefully a good quality interior to match.

I personally like the wheels and everything else you can see through the damn fugly camo.

The only thing I'm 'concerned' about is the price. BMW isn't exactly known for being a cheaper or value-for-money brand... so that will be interesting.
We haven't "all" wanted more power.
If I wanted a more powerful two seat car with a nice interior and a bigger price tag I would already be on a Nissan, Audi, BMW or Chevy forum. As much as it would appear that the people that are buying the 86/BRZ would like this "upgrade" I don't think that many will actually do it. Different target market.

I think it's safe to say that the majority of 86 owners would want more power. If Toyota decides to make a manual variant of the Supra I wouldn't mind picking one up in several years.

I don't think that is safe to say at all. I don't even think it is safe to say that of the people on this forum but of course there is zero way to get accurate data on the subject in either direction so it will remain subjective.

I'd love more power, but only if it didn't compromise the things I love about the car and consider more important than power:

Manual
4 seats
Light. Not kinda light, light.
Predictable at the limit handling (thus pretty long wheelbase)

The Supra will almost certainly not hit these for me. Manual? Hopefully on the 4banger. 4seats? Nope. Light? On a BMW shared platform? Nope. Predictable? With that short wheelbase and wide tires? Nope.

This will be a high strung sports car made to run fast lap times, a Porsche chaser. I'll be fast, bit it just won't be as much fun as an 86.

I'll tell you what I'd take over more power. That's less weight. Goes for both the 86 and Supra.

Regardless, early reports of Toyota testing a modified I6 up to 750hp and that the ZF 8 speed is rated for 770lb/ft seems to indicate power will not be an issue here....

It's a lot cheaper to add power, rather than add lightness.

I'd love more power in my BRZ, but my one main gripe is that the wheels are situated about 10" too far aft. That allows for the +2 rear seats but kills the weight distribution, and I'd prefer a shorter wheelbase anyway.

Supra looks very good in this regard, but honestly I'd have preferred a smaller, lighter, simpler, cheaper (than Supra) 2-seat version of the FT86...

Miata makes a great modern MGB. I want a modern 240Z...

Miata is cramped with annoying ergo idiosyncrasies and an A-pillar that sits in front of my face. Thankfully I have an MR-S so I don't have to settle for an inferior design layout like a miata. Also not into the built in rear body roll personally or the fish face and down's syndrome rear end. YMMV.

The 240z is a great analogy. I also wanted the 86 to be shorter and lighter. It took me 3 test drives for it to grow on me as I was used to a more agile and nimble handling response. But the 86 does seem to have very nice high speed stability as a result relatively speaking. While the 86 is a decent amount of fun to hoon in circles and carve canyons, I don't consider it my real sports car. It's more my fun alternative DD choice to a Camry or a Prius. Love the cargo space and mpg. The 86 is a superb swiss army knife imho.

To me the 86 is a fun car you don't take too seriously. The Supra will be the serious performance car you can have fun in. The price differential reflects this.

Same here, more power is not what I want. Reducing the weight by making this a 2 seater would have been an ideal way to keep the weight down.

Different strokes for different folks. If they made the FRS as a 2 seater I would have never bought it
