Staying under 70 mph also helps gas mileage a lot. For a manual, 70 mph is just a hair under 3k.

I usually keep it around 3k rpm. Anything less than 2k is too low and you will get shitty mileage. 100% city and i am getting around 25mpg.

A gasoline internal combustion engine is always most efficient at wide open throttle.

Now let the flames begin!

I've been trying to get it yup to above 40 and then just through it into sixth. It's that bad for mpg?

This is very true when you're at 3500-4000 RPM at the bottom of the torque dip and cruising you'll get 25-30 mpg.

I normally only go into 6th gear if I am going 40 MPH or more and am cruising. Car seems to be fine. And an a 3 hour car trip, averaging around 75 MPH, I got about 34 MPG. This is with a manual transmission and everything is stock.

Depends upon whether you are going uphill or downhill. Downhill in 6th gear at 40 mph is no problem. Going uphill you should be in 5th or if its a steep hill, in 4th.

Thats really good. Where did the EPA come up with a 30mpg highway rating on our cars.. I average 30mpg in mixed driving in my MT and get about 36mpg on long highway trips if I keep it under 75mph.

The bang for the buck of this car is absolutely extraordinary!
