This is a good post. I was under the impression you would be SOL if something went wrong and the manufacture wouldnt cover the warranty.

you can insure anything.

you just need to find the right company, and be willing to pay the premiums

Well the USAA company will NOT cover the vehicle if it is you DD. (American something or other) They will however do it if the twin is your show car. 5K is the limit through USAA .
I wonder if there's some separate insurance we could buy (not through USAA) that wouldn't be a separate auto policy but specifically to cover loss of the aftermarket upgrades. That way, main auto insurance doesn't come into it, but peace of mind is still there.

If they only insure to a certain amount, insure your most expensive part.

That is actually why I got forwarded out to another company that services USAA. When I talked to them (about 10 minutes total time) I was told they wouldn't cover a DD. That company in particular insures things such as kit cars, or custom work, but only for things such as show cars. I am guessing they limit miles per year or something.

I think this is an adjuster to adjuster variance. When my first Jeep was totaled, they paid retail price on the Bed Liner kit (that I got for free from the maker's President and installed myself) and OEM cost for the center console I added. Total payout ended up being over book value (and about $7,500 more than we paid for it AFTER the $500 deductible).

Would you happen to know if they told you about a limited coverage on mods/custom work and/or being a daily driver?
