Safety inspection
I'm moving back to Oahu hopefully by early May. Does anybody know of a place that's lenient on illegal tint? My tint isn't dark by any means. I'm running 25% all around.

In case you havent heard, the shops are required to have a new safety check system, its stricter now. They have to take a pic of your vehicle and if you get busted and the pic shows the car was non compliant at the time of inspection the shop gets in trouble.
Unfortunately I'd say make the car legal. If you feel inclined, then feel free to do whatever after inspection, that way only you get busted, not the shop. |

^^ Some places already have the cameras in place and everything. As much as it sucks, I agree with them doing it, no SMOG which makes me REALLY happy!
Of course I am from Cali so...... |

I know I'm reviving an old thread, but I'd rather this than make ANOTHER safety inspection thread.
My car is coming from Arizona so I know I'll need to get the rear windows re-tinted (they are 5% right now), but what other crap am I gonna get from the inspection station? What are the things most modded FRS' are failing for, or having to go do more paperwork/inspections for? I've done a bunch to my car and am not in a hurry to have to take it all off. |

I moved back to Hawaii from Texas and literally just went through the whole process. This site should help you as it helped me. http://www.eight08.net/recon.html

Thanks both of you. Gotta love asinine vehicle safety bullshit. Worse since it seems really inconsistent. Looks like I'll need an alignment printout once my car arrives, and then start the nightmare that is registering a vehicle in this state.
I wonder how the safety inspectors can tell if the suspension has been modified. Theoretically, one could to a set of camber bolts, or the crash bolts, which is technically a suspension mod, and how would they know without comparing part numbers ( in the case of the crash bolts)? Seems like a lot of this system is built on perception and a LOT of room for human error (guilty until proven innocent in the case of cops being able to arbitrarily write you up for recon without having to prove that it's required, leaving you to prove otherwise). Looks like Hawaii has been following Komifornia's example of taking rights. Or worse, convincing idiots to vote their rights away. Sent from...somewhere? |

Reviving an old thread,
Just curious how many people have after market headers, front pipe, mid pipe, cat back installed and passed safety? These are all parts I want to install eventually... When I have the money lol Any one with clear side markers and white turning lights pass safety? Do you guys conceal your HID ballasts or uninstall when going in for safety inspection? header back should be no problem as Hawaii has no emission law. Just make sure silencer is on if loud.
clear marker will not pass. |
