FIA rulemaking is Jean Todt's turf.
You're right it's not fair to blame him for FIA rule changes however half the stupid ideas that have come out recently, he's been the first to plug them. Like megaphone exhausts, spark plates under the cars, 3 cars per team, and standing restarts.

3 cars per team is a stop gap measure.

They've done nothing to implement cost control and the very likely reality is that there's going to be fewer teams coming out to play. And I don't blame them because the ROI just isn't there and the rate of money burn is so incredibly rapid and for what? Running 4-6 seconds per lap behind the front runners?

When it comes to racing in F1, the rent is just too damn high.

Well it just needs to be confirmed at the end of the Grand Prix now I guess.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/116138

Also what Montezemolo said at the Paris autoshow yesterday pretty much confirms it.

"One must be able to cope with changes and we are proud to close an important cycle. He (Alonso) gave everything and did extraordinary performances. We all thought and hoped we could achieve better results together."

Sad it's going to end this way, with no titles to show for it...just a couple of bitter 2nd places.

Alonso has said himself time and time again that he's not gonna comment on next year until after the flag drops in Abu Dhabi...these sports "reporters" are starting more rumors than their company can print every day

I get what you mean, but when Autosport reports something, it's 99% true. They are ultra conservative in what they report, and unless they are absolutely sure of something, they don't report it.

Quali begins momentarily. Could be wet and most definitely will be wet on Sunday with Typhoon Phanfone raking the islands and forecast to dump 3+" of rain.

Vettel is following in Schumi's footsteps. Who knows if it will be just as successful? But still, WTF?

Alonso is probably just finalizing the contract details with McLaren before announcing it

I hope with all my might that Alonso ends up driving a Honda McLaren...he deserves a fantastic car...I feel terrible for the guy, arguably one of the best DRIVERS in the field and he's stuck driving a shitbox

I'd like to see Alonso win a championship or 2 in a Honda-McLaren. I'd also like to see him to keep Ferrari/Vettel from winning a championship for next couple years but yet have a close battle for the title, especially a 4 way battle: Mclaren, Ferrari, Merc and Williams.

And honestly I'd love to see a development upset by Force India, Sauber or Williams like BrawnGP had in 2009, where an unexpected team shows up and whoops ass for the first half the year, a team nobody would have expected.

It would be sacrilege if Alonso retires with just two titles to his name. Ever since he left McLaren he's been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Hopefully this move back to McLaren will change his fortunes.

Is F1 that shitty that they would start a race in pouring down rain behind the safety car, run a couple of laps and then call the race and declare the polesitter the winner? What kind of crazy shit is that?
