Thanks!! We are really looking forward to a more comfortable lifestyle again. That and I can't wait to be somewhere that I can enjoy driving again. There's no such thing as a 'back road' here. It sucks.

Why would you recommend longmont when he's talking about his wife working in the springs?

We can't classify a rush hour here, because traffic generally sucks anytime other than the middle of the night. Same goes for the size of the city (LA area). It takes 45 minutes minimum, just to get into the city from here.

There really is no such thing as "suburbs" in OC, as the entire county has a dense city feel (at least our experience in lower OC). We grew up in NJ, 45 minutes from the bridges for Philly, and 2.5 hours from NYC, so we are hoping that CRock will be a bit more comparable to what we've always called "home".

So, what I'm gathering from your input, regarding the Denver metro, generally speaking, the south side is more appealing than the north?
As @wheelhaus mentioned, Castle Rock seems like it'd be the best fit for ya. There are quite a few twisty roads back there you could take to the Springs for a commute. If you're commuting into the Tech Center (Southern Denver) or to the western part of the suburbs (Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Lakewood) Castle Rock would be a good spot. You might even want to look at Lone Tree/ Castle Pines if it's in your budget as they're slightly north of Castle Rock but don't really stretch out that much further.

Where are you living in OC now?

Arvada is nice. The property values are only getting higher and they have the best public school on Colorado. People are nice and it only takes about 15min to get into the heart of Denver.

We're in Costa Mesa. I looked into Castle Pines very briefly, as it didn't take long to determine that we can't afford that area, lol. A big motivator for moving to the area is the cost of living. We can't afford life here. The eternal sunshine isn't worth what you have to pay here. At least that's how we feel about it. The cost of living in the Denver metro is much more comparable to what we grew up with, as is the weather.

All good reasons to move here. If you're wanting a good dollar per house, Castle Rock will get you plenty. The premiums here in the south burbs are land (especially at the rate of build) and water. When looking, make sure the cost of water isn't abnormally high and that if you're looking at a newer housed area that the assessments aren't expected to skyrocket.

Thanks! We'll be renting to settle in the area before we make any plans to buy.

Due to the hills, some areas can see the mountains, some can't. We have bicycle paths everywhere.
What types of bike paths are we talking??? I'm sure there is going to be a variety, but basically we're trying to decide if its worth bringing our bikes with us...

If you could guess, would you say most paths are road bike and/or beach cruiser style friendly??
