You're authorizing them to fix that on your dime?!?!?!? It is pretty evident they either messed up the sensor, or the install of certain parts to throw that code with as much as your engine has been apart.

They should have just given you a longblock long ago and sent you on your way.

I had an OCV sitting around in my house so I installed it myself as they tried to charge me $300 to replace an OCV. Funny thing is, I never replaced it and when I did bring it back to them saying I did with the light still on. They diagnosed it and no light came back. 600+ Miles now and it's driving fine. I agree with the longblock though, they've quoted me $13,000 to rebuild my motor before being held at fault after this recall. I also asked the service manager why he didn't just replace the motor instead of rebuilding it as I thought it would be cheaper and also safer process since it's clear that his techs are not knowledgeable enough to even put a motor back together.

Lack of longblocks in Subaru's U.S. inventory, is what I was told back in March, and the reason in my case.

For both those who’ve had issues after the recall and those that didn’t.. do you mind sharing what sealant was used based on your invoice? Recently got my car back and I know you’re supposed to be using tb1217 for fa20’s but Toyota fipg 00103 was used on my repair throughout. No issues as of yet but it’s only been a couple days.

I took my BRZ in and they had no problem doing the recall despite having the Edelbrock supercharger. They either weren't aware of the recall issue or they were playing dumb. Hopefully it just means they've had zero people come back with issues.

I've only had it back a few days and put about 100 miles on it. Engine seems better than ever so far. I'm going to be nervous for the next thousand miles or so.
Just reporting back with an update. A little over 1,300 miles later, everything still seems fine. No CELs, fluids levels are still fine, no rough idle/starts, etc.

Not trying to rub it in. I feel for the people here.

This is where I got my recall done. Surprisingly small dealership for the Harrisburg area. I'm no mechanic but so far it seems like the car was in good hands.

I get mine back tomorrow or Monday, depending on how much sleep I want to get(Nightshift all this weekend.) Only issue I had was that I was quoted the 3 days(5/28/19), but they didn't take it in to work on it until the following Monday(6/3/19), and they didn't have the plugs and grease for the TOB until Thursday(6/6/19).

I'm definitely going to keep all the paperwork and see if I can get something to hold Subaru accountable if the engine grenades.

Oh, I hope they REPLACED the TOB with the new improved version and just greased the clutch fork. You may wish to ask them that -

TOB needs grease too, where it slides on the input shaft snout

Oh I made sure it was the new part #, and the car was actually delayed because they didn't have the new plugs or the grease. My only thing is that it seems like the idle occasionally dips a bit in neutral while driving, not the AC dip either. No strange noises yet.

Since the battery was disconnected, that idle situation just may be the ECU relearning. I'd give it a few days/miles to settle down.

so hello I am new here.

I have a 13 FRS that is in need of the J02 valve spring recall.

Car currently has 67xxx miles and is bone stock except for an Invidia N1 catback.

Is the best move to just wait this one out? How many cases of valve spring failure were there to bring about the recall? I looked at the sheet and saw 70 cars failed after the recall and knowing my luck I would be number 71.

WELCOME to the forum -

I understand that about 90 some cases of failed valve springs brought on the recall (90 some out of many, many cars built.)

Yes, several cars have reported failing after the recall work.

I have a 2013 FR-S with 25,000 miles and it's subject to the recall. However, my present position is that I wont have the recall work done until it needs new plugs or a new TOB (or both). Even then, I may not have it done.

My thought is "if it ain't broke, don't let em break it".

Could be a cam sprocket, some of the original ones had issues, which would mess up the timing adjust.
