P0304 Code resulting in the destruction of Engine on 2015 FRS
My 2015 FRS with 36000 miles started to have trouble idling. The check engine light went on and I took it to auto parts store to have it analyzed. I took the car to Subaru dealership and the said the problem was in the number 3 cylinder. The changed the coil with the number 4 cylinder but the problem continued. They also switched the spark plugs, but the problem continued. They charged my $138 for the diagnostic and said that it had a cracked cylinder. Since they are a Subaru dealership, they could not repair it under warranty, but recommended I take it to the Boerne Toyota for repairs. They even recommended the Sales Adviser.
Today the Sales Adviser called and said that the item isn't covered under warranty because my FRS was modified. The only modifications have been: -quick drain oil plug -aftermarket air filter -oil cooler -catch can -front strut brace -rear strut brace -brake pedal brace. My repairs aren't going to be covered. Do you guys have any recommendations. Repairs are in the three thousand dollar range |

I would call Toyota directly and have them open a case.

I started working up the chain on my warranty claim by talking to the service manager, then the general manager, then Toyota Customer Relations. I had to contact customer relations twice and push hard for an FTS to go look at my car before Toyota even sent someone from corporate to look at the engine. |

NEWS Update:
Dealership said that it was not a cracked ring in the number three cylinder, but a broken direct injector in the number four cylinder. The direct injector isn't covered because it is over 36,000 miles. The service tech says that when he checks the car under the multiport injector, it is fine, but when he switches to direct injections, it gets the shakes. The cost to repair the direct injector is $1,450 |

I suspect the injector itself is fine and it's just a seal that is bad. The seals are $3 but need a special tool ($120) to replace them. Have you been hearing any popping from the engine bay? Typically bad DI seals produce what people refer to as "firecracker sounds". If you don't have that symptom then maybe it isn't just a bad seal. Regardless it sounds like they are looking to profit off something that should be covered under powertrain. |
