Who wants a laugh?

So, I used to have a Prius C as my DD, so I ocassionally still check that forum. I came across this old geezer that insists that changing wheel offset on a mac-strut car changes camber, while disconnecting the front anti-roll bar, running all-season tires, cheap lowering springs on a car that already is very bumpstop-active from the factory are all good ideas to chasing down other cars during touring laps. He then goes on to call everyone uneducated idiots that dares to question his authoritah.

Get your laughs, or grab a box of tissues and cry at how off-base this guy is:

Cheers,
Ryan

Nothing against the Prius, but do people seriously race these cars? >.>

I always thought it was a joke that the Prius was included in Gran Turismo 5....

LOL! I don't regret having it, the fuel economy was obviously awesome, and the driving experience, once I put KW V3's et al, it was reasonably enjoyable to drive. The lack of a clutch pedal ultimately sealed its fate for me. It was nevertheless a good learning experience.

That said, back to the linked thread, camber change with wheel offset? What planet is that guy on?

I think it's the same irony as taking a crapbox and going racing. Not because it'll be fast, but "just cuz".

I disconnected my steering wheel for a more neutral turning effect.

Did I miss something all these years I've been playing with suspension setup? he is essentially saying that putting on a wheel spacer (artificially moving the offset closer to 0 or negative) changes camber? uh....

I dunno how the Prissy sway bars are mounted, but if you disconnect one of the tie rods on either side, the swaybar is no longer bearing load from damper movement.....

Exactly. I honestly think he's confusing camber with scrub radius or trail. It's a typical MacPherson strut, almost exactly like the FR-S/BRZ twins. The rear suspension is super-simple torsion beam, like most cheap compacts these days.

LOL, perhaps but it's still funny. Reminds me of his thread where we was going off on everyone for even coming close to questioning his transmission fluid choice. Talk about being over-sensitive.

There's a fine line between having a strong opinion and knowing you're right. Unfortunately on forums it's all too easy to confuse the two, or go into anonymous internet-hero-mode and simply announce you're the best engineer ever since the one thing you tried happened to work out.

Oh man, the thread got deleted! I think it was when he told me "RIP" after concluding that I was an "uneducated teen ager". Damn I wish I copied the thread text.
