Inherit the s2k for free, spend the 10k on mods. You will have a much better and faster car than the twins

I have an opportunity to inherit a 20k mile AP2 s2000 at no cost, or spend approximately 10k dollars to get a BRZ. My father owns the s2000 and babied it, so I know it's condition and service records. Now I realize that it comes down to whether the extra practicality is worth the 10 grand, but what I'm more curious about is what you'd do given the choice. I know both cars would be amazing, but I don't want to be sitting in the brz and regret spending the extra money for an arguably similar car. For what it's worth I'm 23 and the extra cargo room would be very useful, but not sure if i can justify the cost.
I would suggest to keep the s2000 as it is a classic car in some respects. They still hold their value so even if you wanted to sell it down the road you definitely can because they don't depreciate like other cars.

On the other hand, if all that a BRZ is going to cost you is $10,000, why not finance that $10k over a 5-6 year period?

Is it only $10k because you have family helping you out? Which is awesome! Don't pass that fortunate opportunity up. If you have good standing credit (650-700 or higher) you will only be paying a couple hundred to own a BRZ along with owning your s2000. Plus maybe you and your dad/brother/family member you can trust can go on weekend rides in each car and have some fun as well.

I agree with this. I love my S2000 but it's slowly turning into a dedicated track car and I think buying a BRZ/FR-S would be a great DD. And I just came from a Miata as a DD.

If you can keep the 86 as a daily without also turning it into a project, go for it. I wouldn't be able to.

As a result of someone making power comments... (especially for daily driveability) I made this spreadsheet. That and I'm bored at work.

Along similar lines, here's a printout from Supersprint's dyno (AP1 vs. FA20):
