"Nobody does full CAN integration, with full DI injector control, DI pump control, and port injector control all run sequentially. I have a lot of tricks also that will really help the super high power guys manipulate the DI and port injection strategies to best suppress knock where the DI is most useful." from Phil @ Element Tuning please let me know if you have been told differently, as the way I read his messages about the system, it was not what I would consider a full EMS system, much like how we used the Haltech system a year ago to control what it had the capabilities of controlling. I did however just get off the phone with our Motec rep, they don't have the units ready state side just yet but are expecting the units to start coming in by the end of November. We have been waiting for this box for a while now, and talking to every ecu manufacturer at SEMA last week, none else were too promising. There is another ecu company that claims they will have DI control in the next 30-60 days that we are keeping an eye on as well. Sorry to partially derail the thread, but congrats on the progress so far! |

The Hydra is a true plug and play on the FRS/BRZ. You pull out the factory ECU and leave it in the garage. The only thing you lose right now is the cruise control and that feature will be available soon. |

I can't wait to get my car up and running with the Hydra and Hydramist systems.
Glad to hear that I'll be able to use cruise control as well. I use that a LOT. |

$3500AUD isn't really a shocking pricetag for Motec...

The best ECU is whichever one works the best with a particular tuner at the controls.

Here is the message I received from Phil: "This is the real deal and probably the only ECu of it's kind as it's 100% plug and play and full stand-alone. You don't need to remove the OEM ecu, just unplug it, plug our harness in, and then plug our Hydra into the harness and place in glove box. For the high boost guys the Hydra has a built in 45 psi MAP sensor and all you need to do is run the vacuum/boost line to the Hydra. Nobody does full CAN integration, with full DI injector control, DI pump control, and port injector control all run sequentially. I have a lot of tricks also that will really help the super high power guys manipulate the DI and port injection strategies to best suppress knock where the DI is most useful." he states you do not remove the stock ecu, so I assumed it to be a parallel operation, and then using the words tricks and manipulate I guess just made me assume it did not have direct control. Thanks Dustin Last edited by Dustin@Dynosty; 11-14-2013 at 11:02 AM. Reason: bolded the word "tricks" as well |

Phil posted a YouTube video a while ago in which he had the factory ECU just sitting on the seat completely disconnected next to him and everything going through the Hydra. Given that I also did all the CAN reverse engineering and updated all the Hydra firmware to run everything on the car, I can claim with a pretty high degree of certainty that the Hydra is a complete stand-alone solution for the FR-S, BRZ, GT86. All you lose right now is the cruise control and we are working on that. |
