DIY - TRD Roof Fin Antenna

I took a few pictures today during my install of the TRD Roof Fin/Antenna.

The installation was quite easy. Here are some step by step instructions with pictures.

1. Unscrew OEM antenna from base.

2. Clean roof area where the antenna is to be installed.

3. Place the provided grid from TRD over the antenna base and tape down. I used painters tape to hold it in place.

4. Once in place remove the middle section(B) from the outside section(A). Then place the roof fin in the removed section of the grid. After I placed the roof fin in the area, I adjusted the tape(one corner at a time) to ensure that the roof fin was not overlapping the grid.

5. Once you are satisfied with the placement, place the roof fin on it's side. Then attach the wire antenna to the base with the supplied screw and washer.

6. Double check your placement to ensure nothing has changed. Remove the film from the double sided tape. Line up roof fin with the grid and press down firmly. Make sure to even amounts of pressure when pressing the roof fin against the roof.

7. Remove grid and enjoy!

that's what she said.

it does seem kinda large, but i do like it. i like how straightforward the install is too. i feel like that template makes a huge difference for installing. a neat idea for sure.

What's radio reception like? All three shark fins I have tried suck.

Got a link to it? Didn't know TRD did one.

*said no woman ever.

But he is right, it is kinda large. Points to TRD for install instructions, but unless the reception is solid, it's easily passable

The reception is just like stock. I still get all my normal radio stations and haven't had any problems. HD radio still works as well.

You can find it here. It's under exterior - others.

It was $188 plus shipping. Here are a few more pics from the install.

I'm glad to see more non-beatsonic shark fins being installed. The shape of this one is cool although feels a tad bit too long. I'm itching to pull the trigger on the Modellista one of these days
