BzzzzZZZZZZZ again! Actually, he did his self portrait from his image while looking in a mirror, so the painting is actually a mirror image of himself. He did, indeed, cut off his left ear.

OK... I have no idea if that's true or not, but... it coulda happened!

EDIT: Wait.. might have to BUZZZZZZ myself. Is that a bandage in his portrait, or part of his hat and the missing ear is on the other side? THis dude ALWAYS confused me..

And.. on another note... cutting off your external ear wouldn't necessarily make you deaf. WAS Van Gogh deaf in whichever ear he cut off? Inquiring minds and all...but not curious enough to engage the services of Sir Google.

Right ear. Bandage. The painting is called "Self Portrait with Bandaged Ear"! Don't even need to Google it. We had to listen about this dude for a week in art class in high school. I hated art class so much that I remember every word of it. Not sure how that works.
