STD is a synonym for STI.
Sexually transmitted disease, sexually transmitted infection.

and google also says:

"The Difference Between STDs and STIs

STDs vs. STIs. There’s a lot of confusion between these two terms, and we’re here to set the record straight once and for all. You ready for this? Okay, here we go.

STD stands for sexually transmitted disease—but you probably knew that part already. “STD” is the most commonly used term for the collection of medical infections that are transmitted through sexual contact. But that’s just the thing. People who become infected, don’t always experience any symptoms or have their infection develop into a disease. That’s where the more modern term “STI” comes from.

STI stands for sexually transmitted infection, and many people, mostly the medical community, have begun transitioning from “STD” to “STI” in an effort to clarify that not all sexually transmitted infections turn into a disease. For instance, the vast majority of women who contract HPV (human papilloma virus) will not develop the resulting disease cervical cancer. In fact, most cases of infection will clear up within two years. Additionally, people who use this term believe that it also eliminates some of the shame that’s been associated with the acronym “STD.”

So, the long and short of it is this: STD and STI both essentially stand for the same thing. The distinction is that an STI doesn’t always mean you have an STD."

So, WHY would anyone want to indicate that their car has a disease -

There is a term for this, which I recall goes back at least 20 years. It's called rice.

Ew. Less badges the better bro. Anything that isn't pinned gets yanked off.

And if you count Japanese made motorcycles called "rice burners", it goes back 50 some years -

I personally don't think it is ever okay to put STI badge on a twin, it looks like your trying too hard. Because anyone who would recognize and understand what the STI badge is will know it doesn't belong to that car. Now if you made all the main upgrades the TS has and put a TS badge on it I think that's a different story although still a little show offy/not genuine.

Cars come off much cooler when it doesn't seem like they are trying so hard. Having the TS upgrades with no special badge I think is more cool. Not having to show off is what makes it seem cool, being understated.

My analogy is like in basket ball when a player makes a three point shot, sure they can give a fist bump or jump up to celebrate. However it comes off way cooler when they barely even acknowledge they landed a three pointer, like no big deal. Folks notice when you don't gloat and you could, and it makes you look way cooler.

Long time ago when I worked in marketing for GM, we used to send out stickers to the top selling dealerships. How many they got were based on sales ranking, but the stickers were limited volume. Things like Z71 - Off-Road or something to stick on the top spec'd trucks. We did this as a financial incentive for the dealer because customers would pay more for the trucks with the stickers on them and it would be pure profit for the dealership since the truck itself was just a normal top spec truck.

In England, people pay extra to get a car debadged.

Badges don't make a car better or worse, they just make someone else money.

Not so sure about that. The Z71 package is a invoiceable item (meaning it would be on the price sticker) and includes things more than just the sticker. The dealership wouldn't be able to just put the stickers on the trucks unless it actually contained the package, which would include the stickers.

Unless you mean it was for trucks with the Z71 package and provided additional tacky evidence of such. In that case, I could see where that would work.

So, it should not belong to these ones either:

[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIYpP_xFL-s[/ame]

Or should the S209 owners say soon that the badge should belong only to them? :b

Things are evolving and IT IS NOT marketing as some said. They might not be as much as capable on straight speed, but they are capable on other areas to deserve the badge. Not a coincidence that a BRZ tS made a Car&Driver Lightning Lap time of 3:14.0 and a WRX STI '11 made a 3:13.80 time.
