Definitely. I just mean the technology is child's play for Toyota. Reason why there is no turbo 250 horsepower version is because they don't want to produce it, not because they can't.

Sure... if you don't account for cost, warranty, servicing, product placement in product stack, marketing, product placement in market, emissions requirements, and a host of other issues.

If you're pointing out the ease with which they could theoretically make more power out of the 2L motor with a turbo, wouldn't the Forester XT or '15 WRX (both of which use nearly the exact same motor as the BRZ, but with a turbo and 250+hp) be a better comparison? They aren't stupid expensive either...

Right exactly. It wasn't a comparison, just wanna say it should be a piece of cake for automakers to tune up the engine. The question is whether they want to do it or not.

370z is fairly light and 300hp and costs less than 40k.
The 86 is not that light especially considering all the hoorah about how light weight it is... i mean, it's the same weight as a 2014 mazda 3 2.0. It's NOT light, lol...

I don't get why people don't buy a 370z when they want more power out of the 86.

You can easily upgrade the suspension in the 370z and make it as fun as the 86 to drive while having factory reliable power upgrade.

exactly.. this car is lightweight.. for a 2+2, loaded with all the latest
safety crap.. its not too tight inside and quite comfortable..

"not light" means it's not as light as its hyped to be. the miata is much lighter. I hear the new miata due out next year is even lighter than the current model.

"370z is fairly light" means its weight is still way below the camaros and the mustangs and still appropriate for a sports car.

What do you think will happen to weight of a turbo 86? the weight penalty between a mazdaspeed 3 (turbo) and a regular mazda3 is about 300 lbs. When you add power, you add weight to transmission, axles, drive shaft, diff, brakes, wheels and tires to be able to handle it with reliability.

The 370Z is 520 lbs heavier than the FRS. The Mustang GT is only 320 lbs heavier than the 370Z and 840 lbs heavier than the FRS.
