Mysterious Toyobaru Patents?
Via: http://jalopnik.com/what-could-these...ean-1442505661
What Could These Mysterious Toyobaru Patents Mean? The Subaru BRZ is The Car We Demanded, Well Actually The Other Car We Demanded After We Demanded The Cadillac CTS-V Station Wagon But Who's… Read… The Toyobaru! I love it and so do you, but we're all pining for a version with more power in addition to that delectable handling. Now some mysterious patent drawings have cropped up that make us wonder if something special is in the cards. Our tipster recently discovered two patents published fairly recently on Google's patent database that show drawings for "motor vehicle(s) and/or toy replica(s) thereof" that appear to have been filed by Toyota/Subaru. P The first one is a decidedly big-winged version of the Toyota GT86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ. If that big wing looks familiar, it should; that's a TRD aero kit, or at least something very similar to it. The next one is a bit trickier to pin down. It's clearly a Toyobaru body but with more boxed-out fender flares, more stylized headlights and taillights, and a roof spoiler. It looks an awful lot like the FT-86 Concept II from way back in 2011 before the production car went on sale. Remember that? Of course, all of these could be for some neat new diecast toys. They could also be for some kind of special new Toyobaru, perhaps the one with 300 turbocharged horsepower we have all been dreaming about sliding into a wall. |

https://www.google.com/patents/USD688979
http://www.google.com/patents/USD689...ed=0CAcQ6AEwAQ Legal date is from February 2011, I assume that's the date the patent extends back to meaning that to invalidate it a competitor has to show invention prior to that date which is when the concept was initially shown. I would not be surprised if it's the patent for the shape of the 86 and nothing more. Best case scenario is new wings, everything else is basically the same as what's in showrooms, but I look forward to 5+ pages of speculation and how this = more powah. |

I see lots of these go back 2 years from filing date, maybe that's a rule/law defining how far back you can reach in this country?
Anyway, the top one has Troy's name attached so I figured it might be an upcoming Five:AD project. @five86 any comments? |

Totally unrelated, but fun people who enjoy such trivia:
Go to http://patents.google.com/ and search for ininventor:"Frank Stephenson" MP4? Cooper? Same guy! |

If you're going to copy and paste exactly from Jalopnik, at least credit them.

I would think with the OP posting a link to Jalopnik where the images came from is giving them credit.

The post has been changed from it's initial state, curious that it doesn't have the 'edited' note.

I'm glad those stupid wings did not make it to the final design.

It's funny how everyone goes on about how this car should have come with 300hp, when they don't realize that 300hp in this car is a ridiculous amount of power lol
