Do not buy from Southwest Engines! (swengines.com)

I blew my engine and needed a new engine. I find one on swengines.com. it says "This engine comes COMPLETE less alternator, starter, power steering pump, AC compressor and turbo(if applicable). I even called to verify that it is a complete long block assembly ready to drop in, they say yes. manual trans, 16k miles (the car has 55k), 5 year 50k mile warranty for $3250." A little expensive, but I want my car back, and the warranty sounds good.

The engine shows up with no paperwork at all, and it is TRASHED! Not like a pallet fell over trashed, but more along the lines of this thing has been in a major front end collision trashed. On top of that first thing my mechanic notices is that it is from a auto trans vehicle. Intake manifold has holes in it, mechanic went to swap my original over, and discovered a nut sitting on the intake valve, thermostat housing sheared off, holes in the timing chain cover, cracked valve cover (it had been hit and was pushed into the cam), one of the threads for valve cover screws were broken off, 3/4 cam sensor plugs broken off, huge chunk of steel missing out of the engine mount (not a big deal because I have aftermarkets, but something had to hit it HARD for that to happen), oil dipstick tube bent back into a pulley breaking the pulley, ECU smashed to pieces, I could go on....

So I complain to them and they agree to send me another engine. Second engine shows up, and AGAIN A DAMN AUTO TRANS ENGINE with no paperwork to verify miles. Hell, it could have 200k miles...idk? It's also damaged but salvageable. Again broken cam sensors, broken oil temp sensor, it looks like someone used a chisel to pop open the oil pan making it leak, fucked up threads where the trans mounts to engine that had to be chased, he had to re-route the coolant system due to differences in AT/MT engines.

He gets it running, but all in all he spends a lot of hours on top of what he should have had to because of how messed up these engines were. To be exact, an extra $940 in labor on top of what it should have cost. I called SW engines to see if they would own up to it, but the customer service guy Scott is a complete asshole, and tells me it says "some items may have to be changed over." I said yes, the items listed in the quote, not all kinds of other stuff. He basically replies with tough shit. I also bring up the differences between the Manual and Auto engines, and he says no they are the same. I ask to talk to a manager or supervisor, and he says he is the supervisor. Yea, like when you call customer service to a big company you get the supervisor on the phone. This guy is a joke.

Because of their poor quality I incurred an extra $940 in labor, and they tell me to go fuck myself. I still have the other engine, which has a good short block that they want back. Not sure what I'm going to do at this point.

Well in fairness to Scott he very well could be the supervisor. Could also be the owner, the bookkeeper, the warehouse guy, the janitor and everything else. Just because there is a Customer Service number does not mean he has a staff of hundreds.
That is where my fairness ends though. We live in a wonderful age where companies can not pull shit like this. I have to ask though did you even spend a few minutes checking on them before you ordered? I am 100% confident that after seeing the reviews I would not have even considered them.

Horrid_Funk: no worries. This engine for cheap will be used in other plane. I see nothing that cannot be fixed with tape here.

Airline companies do not manufacture jet engines or the aircraft. They operate the planes. But, they provide the infrastructure for aircraft to fly from here to there 24/7/365. On leap years they take a day off

Without doing any research I bet that engine was manufactured by general electric

I can agree!! My friend just blew his engine in an auto frs, we bought an Auto engine and they sent a manual. The guy we spoke to on the phone said “you can still do it, all you have to do is switch the upper oil pan” , but obviously there’s a lot more too it once we started researching. The guy was extremely rude and even yelled at me saying I don’t understand what I’m doing. Currently trying to either get out money back or have them ship the correct engine. Wish we did research on this first, oh well.

I thought swengines.com was a division of the airline. What else are they going to do with all those blown engines?

That's an option I'm considering...

I tried to be civil with him and was super polite at first in explaining my situation. I know going on an angry tirade gets you nowhere. So fuck all fairness to Scott.

Nope, Scott is the customer service guy. That is his job and he sucks at it. I think he gets a commission on fucking people. It is a huge company, there is no way he does all that stuff. He may be the only customer service person, because I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone else. I They sent me a "how are we doing" survey after the purchase, and I let them know all the issues, but it probably goes to Scott, then right in the trash file. He was so rude and unapologetic that if he was standing in front of me I probably would have punched him in the face. I was shaking out of anger talking to him over the phone. I'm usually a pretty easy going person. I should have recorded the call....

I'll be honest I was on a business trip in a 3rd world country with slow internet on my phone while my car was in the shop. I didn't do as much research on the company as I should or normally would have if I was at home. Doesn't mean they can treat customers like this.

So I order a manual and get an auto, and you order an auto and get a manual? This company has their head so far up their ass!

At this point they are probably going to fuck you either way. If the engine is in usable condition I would make it work. If they send you another engine it may 1) not be in working order or 2) may not be the auto you ordered, or both. If you try and send it back I'm sure they will charge you some outlandish "restocking" fee, even though they are the ones that fucked up. I wish you the best of luck.

I guess these engines were produced by CFMI. CFM International is a joint venture between GE Aviation, a division of General Electric of the United States, and Safran Aircraft Engines (formerly known as Snecma), a division of Safran of France.

I'll give you half credit!

HAha. Go to their website and scroll down to the bottom to see the 5 star reviews. So many of them come from "My Reputation .com." Incidentally, that company don't even have a full website, just a landing page with the logo and generic background.

Not fishy at all.
