Where abouts in Austria are you guys? My company's headquarters is in Vienna and would live to check it out in person next time I am over there.

Definitely it will be offered as a full kit (with brand new engine/TC from factroy) and also as a conversion KIT, as a "budget" version which allows you to take a used engine.

of course the full kit will be quite $$ pricey as already the OEM engine/TC is quite a cost number by itself.

Stay tuned. Just a bit more time
So should we just file this under vapourware?

It is not vapourware. It is just that it costs a lot more to make a "factory swap" and that this kit can't get made road legal in Germany. Could be different in the US. Given the situation of Stohl Racing's product and that it is not commercially viable, I think they should open-source the whole information they have to the USA, where there is higher probability of doing such swaps given the higher number of Subaru with FA20DIT and BRZ/86 in general.

It's vaporware if it doesn't make it to market, regardless of whether he has a working prototype. He keeps promising results, then not meeting the timetables he sets out. Suspecting that it's vaporware isn't unreasonable at this point.

How does this change the handling of the 86? The FA20 is amazing around corners

I'd imagine that it's barely noticable. Essentially, you're only adding the weight of a turbo and intercooler. Still an FA20.

I was really hoping that either they finished the kit, or someone else would try this. I feel that even the engine and "install kit" cost around 8-10K, it would be a better over-all result. You may be able to get better power per dollar elsewhere, but the reliability of a factory turbo engine is best.

I would love to do this. Now makes me want to wait a little more on buying my supercharger.

No major hurry, can't rush perfection and reliability.

I have fa20dit engine because my gt86 engine has problems. I'm about to install it instead of fa20 on it's corrupt. We do not know whether it is difficult or easy, but it must be done before we know it.

Too bad this project never went live. Last time they told me that they couldn't get a TÜV approval. It would be possible to use it here only for racing.

Adding 10-20K to this car gets me thinking about other cars in that price range. It looks like a fun little project but it will have little commercial value. Even if a bunch of kids buy it. I will wait and pick one up from one of these kids for dirt cheap when its all done, maybe. Learn from others, project cars very rarely get anywhere close to the money spent on re-sale. Most people don't want the risk and with the increased price there are some nice cars with factory warranties.

If I had a bunch of money, why not because a project car process is always fun. Hope he at least gets to enjoy his car even if its never available.

I spent 10k+ on my 1986 MR2 with an engine swap that took almost a year (10k+ just for the engine swap and supporting mods). owned it for about a year and half after the swap was completed before selling it for half that price. was it worth it? probably not and there was a lot of work to be done due to it being an old car. however, it sure was fun as hell with 280whp in a little car. sold it for the BRZ and told myself to never do that again. it wasn't that bad since I bought the MR2 for 3k, but I definitely wouldn't do it again on a more expensive car like the twins (engine swap at least... I have quite a bit into mods though lol...)
