Nobody wants to blow their boosted engine, but should the unfortunate happen, what route would you take?

I would weigh the costs of a built FA20 vs a high RPM LSX swap. And choose the easier route. Most likely a built FA20

Stock internals are more durable than they get credit for.**

High compression and e85 are friends when FI.

Some people don't like the turbo lag and narrow power band associated with low compression.

Stock internals are cheap.

Any decent FI build with forged internals is going to be hitting the max power the transmission can hold pretty quick.

That's all I can think of for now. Just playing devil's advocate.

**stock pistons are weak but they do fine with e85, stock rods are strong but they can't handle lots of low end torque.

Crawford, while successful with other subaru engines, does not have a good reputation with the FA20. Plus their stuff is crazy expensive. And really, who the hell thinks it's a good idea to sell a turbo kit without an intercooler? I question their decision-making skills.

How much are the internals of the engine that are forged? If you did your research you'd know it's ganna run you at about 3k and that's minimum. Add another 1k and you have a whole new block with forged internals already.
I'm not here to promote crawford or say they are the shit, but I see a good deal for reasonable price so if I do blow my engine I'm going with this route.

Basically a refreshed engine with "custom" rods and off-the-shelf CP pistons.

We can get you much better parts for that price, and you can re-use an existing engine.

There are horror stories on that other subaru performance forum about Crawford. There is a reason they are not a vendor here. Look elsewhere if you ever need a built engine. I have not looked into a built engine yet, but full blown seems to have a good rep. I'm sure any reputable vendor here could get you going.

(NO. You can do forged internals at off-the-shelf prices for $1223.00. That's just one example. And it'll buy you the same pistons and rods Crawford uses.)

Of the 8 things on that list, only 2 aren't Subaru OEM... And both of them are off-the-shelf aftermarket parts from other companies. You forgot to paste in the bullsh*t weak-sauce justification for using so many OEM parts... "No cheap aftermarket parts here..." Except all the off-the-shelf aftermarket internals...? They're just using the long list and new engine "designation code" to talk up what amounts to a really simple build.

They didn't build or engineer anything in that engine like they claim. They just hype it up so they can upcharge the sh*t out of it.

They're a shit shop that trades their entire reputation on a car they built in 2009 on an UNLIMITED BUDGET (talking about the Gymkhana car they ceaselessly brag about). Any f*ck hole with a wrench can do that. Any idea why Gymkhana 3 - 7 haven't been built there?

For a budget of $4099, Stripping down and building your own engine funds the internals as well as the valvetrain, clutch and flywheel, injectors, proper ARP studs, and most of a fuel pump. You know, all the real support for a boosted build.
