I'm in the Vancouver area also & looking to get opti-coated also.
Do you sell products to pick up locally?

Give me a call at 604.561.5121 and we can discuss it. You can pick up supplies at my shop. All retail sales are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY as I do some mobile detailing and am not always there. As well, the shop is very backed up this time of year so all appointments are done at the end of the day or Saturdays. To see what we carry, visit autowerkesexclusivestore.ca.

Just had my FR-S opti-coated by Ken - he did a fantastic job and was a pleasure to deal with. Drove out to Maple Ridge from downtown and there weren't that many bugs on the front. If anybody's on the fence and the thought of going to Maple Ridge is putting you off, it's worth the trip.

Thanks again, Ken.

Any recommendations for great detailers/opti-coat installers in Southern Cali (Orange County Area)? All these amazing before and afters really have me salivating to get this done to my FRS.

Maybe this is an issue or maybe not. My understanding is that Opti coat is like an extra layer of clear coat on your paint. If that is true and it has the properties of clear coat, wouldn't it be subject to marring and swirls just like clear coat? If that would be the case, to correct this situation, you would have to use a polish with abrasive. I've read that the only thing that removes Opti Coat is an abrasive. If this is true I don't see the benefit. Sounds like a pretty good deal if you are a detailer and can charge someone over $500 for this service. Unless someone can tell me I'm full of it I think I'll stay with various grades of polish for corrections and a good sealant or wax.

It's much harder than a standard clear coat so it swirls less easily and is just all together more resilient. Opti-Guard even more so.

I had some very fine streaks from when I did mine on the hood, looked like a few wisps of spider silk. I took my Shurhold 3100 to it with a bit of compound, followed by polish. Not knowing if the Opti-Coat was rubbed off, I sprinkled water on it, still there! But the wisps were gone. Sure you probably can't do this a lot, but what's the big deal? Just apply a bit more after the polishing and it's back to full depth.

The best part...I never had to touch the original clear coat!
