Perhaps pooling isn't the ideal choice of wording. More like unnecessary left over coating over time. Perhaps decreasing the life of the turbo seals. There is a reason why documentation on F/I setups have always provided the rule of having the system parallel.

Now that I can understand... hmm That's food for thought and research.

Say they say it's alright, I'm sure they have more experience than I do at building a system of course, I still would have preferred a curve in the pipe than to make the turbo non-parallel. It looks awkward compared to every setup I've ever seen. I did google "crooked turbo setup" and came across a boxer setup with an angled turbo system, so perhaps it does work ok. |

Garrett are happy to mount at up to 36 degrees off horizontal in any direction in any application. So lets just think for a second, what about accellerating at .5 of a G continuous in a straight line...turbo is mounted at 22.5 degrees now for the sake of oil drainage. 1G? 45 degrees, plus any additional rake from chassis movement. Or lets think lateral acceleration, same thing, same figures. So in reality any and every turbo except tractors, ships and solid state generators are exposed to all sorts of angles and shit and it makes zero difference. |

Sorry to resurrect this thread but...I gotta ask. How is the AT holding up at this time?

Funny that you bumped this thread today!
The BRZ spent the whole day on the dyno today testing some new parts that we have in the works. All I heard was 1-5 gear wide open throttle acceleration runs all day. LOL As far as I know the BRZ is still on the original AT. I believe the Stg.2 turbo set up and Oil/trans coolers were among the things being tested. Kathy |
