I work in aviation actually. I'm an analyst, so my main task is to collect and compile data. I also report to management about my findings on a weekly basis. It's not as complex as it sounds, though. I mostly email people to ask them why they're not doing what they're supposed to and then track the answers. Sometimes people do what I want or correct the mistakes I'm tracking, but most of the time I don't get answers.

I am tracking quite a few things, but since most of what I track isn't in my control, all I can do is email people and update my spreadsheets, which doesn't take very long at all. I'm fairly busy Monday and Tuesday, but the rest of the week? Almost nothing. And I try to ask around for stuff, but no one seems to have anything.

I feel your pain.

I'll ask people for details on things they want and they never reply all the time. Then when it's an emergency(if it wasn't one to begin with and it usually is) they come crying wanting to know where what they were crying for is. I tell them to start answering my questions so I can help them but they never listen.

Ha, I had this exact issue in my last role. I was in accounts payable and the sourcing people/buyers would always email me with an issue (probably their fault) and I would delve deep into, probably deeper than was actually my job, and determine the root cause. I would then give them a detailed summary of my findings, screenshots, and tell them exactly how to fix the issue and get the vendor paid.

After a week of hearing nothing back from them, the same person would email me again and ask if anything had been done on it. Not typing, "Did you do what I told you to do?" was extremely difficult, especially when they would do this repeatedly for weeks.
