Totally man! Especially once all the whiners have been offloaded into the Corolla and one can enjoy some quality time by oneself in the 86

With regards to the Corolla though, I actually saw a Corolla hatchback on the way to work today and thought about how nice it looked. I would love to daily that, honestly.

I wish Toyota made an all-trac/GT4 version of this. Hell, even this with the turbo engine would be nice. Can't imagine it happening though unless the 86 was nixed.

I was actually looking for an MR2 as a track car lol I'd love to have an older Toyota or Subaru coupe as a car I can build up to only use on the track.

Yeah totally agree. Daily drivability is definitely a matter of preference, but I see the heated seats, dual-climate control, and Bluetooth etc. on my Limited BRZ as cool extras I could live without. It's my first "newer" car so these features make the BRZ a luxury car to me lol Bells and whistles that others deem absolutely necessary are not something I'm used to or even expect. Half of them are useless anyways.

I'm amazed how frequently they pop up on Bring A Trailer given they weren't exactly high volume cars and the ones in the NE are probably mostly rust buckets by now. Current example:

It's really not bad. Most of the rust is on easily-cleaned forged or cast parts. Just needs some TLC.

I _want_ an 86/BRZ. I think they're sexy as hell. I like the idea of a small, lightweight, low car. I've tracked an FR-S and it was fun, although it sure was tricky to keep the speed up.

I understand that with sports cars, concessions have to be made, like useless back seats, limited trunk space, noisy cabins, door windows with no frames, etc.

That's all fine, if it's all in the name of making a car go around a track faster.

Except now there's the Civic Si, which goes around VIR 4 seconds faster than a BRZ according to Car and Driver.

Plus the Civic Si only weighs ~100 lbs. more, it has more torque, better skidpad numbers, it has useful back seats, a bigger trunk, door windows with frames, a nicer interior, it's cheaper, all the reviews say the handling is spectacular, and it comes standard with all the features that Toyobaru charge $3000 extra for (automatic climate control, CarPlay, etc.).

I really don't want to be a guy who drives a Honda Civic, plus I think the new ones are uglier than sin.

But I also don't want to be a guy who pays thousands of dollars more for a less-comfortable, less-practical "driver's car" that can't drive around a racetrack any faster than a Civic.

Any thoughts on the subject are appreciated!
The civic is for you. We prefer oversteer to understeer around here tho.

How fast a car can go around a track has exactly nothing to do with whether or not it is a "driver's car".

Also.. "Hard to keep the speed up? THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT. She takes skill to master... not just a heavy right foot.... The civic is for you.

Toyota has actually been nailing it with their new TNGA cars lately.
Maybe not so much the prius (cuz it looks funky), but the Camry, Avalon, Corolla, Rav4 (soon) and the CH-R are all vehicles that would actually make you say "i'd actually drive that!" instead of "I'd drive that because its a good A to B car"

Yes, the CH-R is looking really good. I was working on a deal to swap Prius+Corolla to 86+CH-R. The wife was really attached to the Corolla so only half the swap was done. 86 and CH-R do make a good pair. When it's time for the Corolla to go, it would highly likely be replaced by a CH-R.

The CH-R is only available with FWD and the CVT transmission.

Nothing but a flamboyant looking appliance. Hard pass.

Then again, I put 9000 miles a year on a 1992 Integra GS-R without functional AC. What do I know?

That's precisely the point. Give the whiners their flamboyant family appliance and get them off my and the 86's back

I only use the AC for windshield defrosting in the 86 or Prius. Turning on AC forces the engine to run in the Prius, not good for gas mileage. No audio in the 86 or Prius either. The CD drive in the Prius has been broken forever. In the 86, I much rather listen for engine RPM than my daughter's lame pop "songs". "Umm... I still haven't figured out how to play the songs off USB drive in this new car. Ok?"

I don't understand why Toyota kept it FWD in North America.
Euro spec CH-R's have AWD available, but that might be cuz its paired with a different engine?
