For those of you guys having problems with the rubber dust boot, i would just make a small incision on the side of it to make it easier to slip off and just get some glue and seal it up after you put in the new SS. I ripped mine in 3 different places accidentally getting it off and I just yolo-ed it and gave it some glue LOL works fine.. or you can just buy a new one

Just how important is that little dust boot anyway? I'd had my stock shifter replaced under warranty (rattly shifter TSB), and when I did the SSK install just now that dust boot was pretty mangled, to the point where I couldn't really get it back on the way it's supposed to be. Right now it's just sort of roughly enclosing the linkage, but I feel like it could slide off and wind up just hanging on the rod that the shift level attaches to (not sure what it's called...).

Other than that the install went super smooth. I went on a quick test drive to make sure everything felt alright and I was very impressed by the new shifter. Very short and very positive shifts.

the car will be driveable, but over time corrosion, dust, dirt and sand could probably find a way to attach itself right there and make things not as smooth. I'd probably order one from the dealer and throw it on next time you do an install.

Hey I'm installing my shifter today. The one I got was used and didn't come with any more grease. Does anyone know where I can pick some up or if I can use something else?

I think any thick grease will do the trick. Otherwise you can order a tube from Oakos for $2.50 shipped.

It's all good. I found some that seems to be working great. But I did mangle the hell out of that dust boot. Right now I don't have it on, need to get a new one. Is it cheaper online or at the dealership?

Hey so I'm curious about anyone that mangled their linkage boot. Can you install a new one from under the car or would I need to take apart my center console again. I just ordered a new one from my dealer and it'll be here tomorrow and I plan on doing the shifter bushing soon. So I was wondering if I can save some time by doing it under the car? Help please.

You can do it from under the car. Be very careful with it.

Yeah lol. Now that I know which way it's supposed to go on it should be a bit easier.

For everyone who had trouble with the dust boot, take the time to jack the car up and get under it. Dust boot is VERY easy to remove and re-install from underneath the car. I've done it 3 times and never came close to ripping it. Takes about 10 seconds to do from underneath.

God this shifter is amazing. Should have done this in the first place instead of being cheap and trying out the TRD quickshifter. Thanks for the great DIY!

Me three! Did anyone get an official answer to this? I ordered my Beatrush revers lockout and Raceseng Ashiko shiftknob to go on the KB SS that I plan on purchasing Friday. Would love an answer.

If you're talking about the reverse lock out then no you can't use the beatrush or any aftermarket reverse lockout on the Kartboy shifter. The only option is to use the OEM shifter or get the BPS one.
