are you referring to the one on the shock? you want to hold the allen key still since twisting it too much will eventually ruin the seals on your shocks. though, I am not sure about exactly how many turns will ruin it, but as long as the allen key is held relatively still and doesn't turn much then it should be fine

Okay..so I have gone through this and DarrenDriven's DIY. I am confused about one thing. When do I tighten 4 top hat nuts? Should they be preloaded or not? I'm sure it's here somehwere I must have missed it..

Thanks for the tip!

Had never done anything like this. Took about 3-4 hours just figuring it out along the way. Undoing the rear strut screw took forever with my makeshift tool, but it worked fine.

I did this today on the front to replace my oem frs springs with oem brz springs. All I did was unbolt the sway bar, pull the strut to the side, replace the springs and put it all back together. I did a pre load on the assembly using the jack, everything was too easy IMO. Thanks for the post!!! And anyone can do this really.

A few points for anyone trying to do this DIY:
1. Always use jack stands. DO NOT trust your hydraulic jack.
2. DOn't worry too much about torquing the strut top bolt. Let the guy doing your alignment do that for you (2 weeks later).
3. Do an alignment 2 weeks later, after everything has settled.
4. Save yourself a lot of trouble and loosen your rear LCAs bolt. So much easier. Unbolt the end links for bonus ease.
5. Spend a few extra $ and get your car corner balanced when you get it aligned. Worth it.

Good luck!

Huge thanks for this shortcut method! It works like a charm!

I just installed my STI springs. I feel so damn good about it too haha

I was going to have a shop do it, but once I got the price quote...I told myself no way...I'm going to do this!

Feel so accomplished....guys, you can do it too! Save your money and just get another set of helping hands

Use this guide for all the other steps

Awesome, thank you for this!
I swapped springs last night, took a little longer than expected due to some difficulty removing the rears... and forgetting to tighten a couple of bolts on the rear LCAs.

Anyone know if this method will work with aftermarket springs? I did it the first time with the stock springs, but now I'm on shorter & stiffer springs - still think the same principles would apply...

Been on lowering springs for a while getting ready to swap in some Bilstein B8s & get off the stock shocks >_<

All installed, you can use this method with a stiffer spring rate than stock. For anyone that cares.

There is less preload so it may even be easier than stock. Had to unbolt a couple bolts on the rear lca to get them unloaded fully.
